Menopause and weight gain ( sorry men, you probably don't want to read this LOL)

Wow! I have put 9 lbs in the last month and I don't know how! I'm definitely watching what I'm eating and working to get it off. But am wondering what many of my WLS sisters are doing to deal with it as well. I am menopausal, hot flashes, emotional, no sex drive and now gaining weight! Ugh!!!  Any ideas or tips for me?

Hormones are a ***** aren't they?   I'm only 52 and have been post-menopausal for the last year.  I don't know where you are in the weight loss phase but I haven't had to worry about hot flashes anymore (I'm always cold) and my emotions have seemed to ease up but I do have to contend with the sex drive thing.  Gaining weight?  That's hard to say because I'm in maintenance now and working to find the right amount of calories/carbs/protein that allows me to maintain within my comfort zone.  So are my struggles because of menopause or because I'm still so new to this WLS thing?  Hard to say....

If you're super uncomfortable I would suggest talking to your doctor about hormone-replacement therapy.  You can use it for shorter periods of time, it doesn't have to be a forever thing, and it could help you with all those areas.  It wasn't an option for me because additional hormones always send my blood pressure through the roof and have since I was in my early 20's.

It's been a constant fight for me for the last couple of years - I am riding it out without HRT because I don't want to go through this crap at 70 when insurance won't pay for the hormones!!!

Just don't let those 9lbs become 19 or 29 ...   Cut the carbs, up the exercise and good luck - getting old sucks!

Yep, I'll be asking the dr. I am 5 years out and have maintained 110lbs until now. Scary to think I could gain all the weight back...what does hormone replacement therapy entail? Is that something I can find at the health food store?
