Waiting on approval :)

Been in contact with insurance, going Thursday to start the approval process from my doctor that my insurance requires which what I understand is just a letter from my doctor. Not sure what it is, I'm hoping she knows. The Dr. I found is covered by my insurance and is currently taking new patients. Next step besides waiting for the approval is to set up seminars to attend and  wait for the "your approved" letter. One question that I have is the Doctor that I found is a general surgeon... is that normal?   I'm not stopping my search by all means but from the reviews I have read he is very professional.
