Do I need to buy this special expensive blender or would any old blender work?

Would any old blender work for what?

I love my Ninja.  It blends up ice and frozen fruit way better than my old cheap Walmart blender did.  But the Walmart blender was OK for stuff like blending protein powder with milk.

I use a container with a shaker ball inside for just mixing powder and liquid because it is easy to clean.  My counter top blender was used when adding fruit, ice, etc.  My daughter came for a visit while her spouse was in Iraq and she had a Vitamix.  It was far superior to my table top blender so when she left I started searching for one but couldn't bring myself to spend the big bucks.  I watched for a sale and got a great bargain at Kohl's on a large Ninja and love it.

I use a ninja for cooking stuff, but for shakes I just have a collection of Blender Bottles that work wonderfully.

I'm sure you are referring to making a protein shake.   Any blender will do....if you buy a regular blender then you may end up with chunks of ice ( they don't do the best of jobs with the ice ).   Ninjas are wonderful....I have one but you don't have to spend the big bucks and get one.    Any blender will blend the shakes you just might not have super fine ice in the shake.

Has anyone had success with the Magic Bullet? We have one from years ago, I'm thinking I should pull that out and try it. Should be getting my date soon and will need to get creative with  my two week preop.  When I do the slimfast I have a shaker bottle.

I wore out several Magic Bullets.  I like shakes with lots of ice and Magic Bullet was fine for that.

I just bought a ninja 24 ounce blender/bullet at Target for $89 and it does a wonderful job. No ice chunks!!

I have the Nutri Bullet and I love it!  It has a lower profile, so you can keep it on your counter, and it's easy to use and clean.  It pulverizes everything and from what I understand, it works just as well as the Ninja.....   :-)

I am about to start my 2 week pre-op liquid diet in 2 weeks and I bought the Farberware Rocket for $20. at Walmart. I only use it for protein shakes but it works great. I put crushed ice from my fridge in it & it crushes it up the rest of the way pretty good. The only thing is it doesn't do too well with, is whole ice cubes. But for $20.00, I think it is well worth it! It also comes with alot of cups, lids & strainers(for pureeing foods) & 2 different blades.
