Hi,

I've been here on and off since 2006. I'm in desperate need of support in Virginia or even an email buddy. I have really not being using my tool very well and have gained some weight back that I'd like to say good-bye to once again:) We moved to Va from Fort Campbell, Ky in 2011 and since then I went from size 12 jeans to size 16 jeans (snug).  I'm just looking for anyone who is also struggling to take off some regained weight or if you're close enough a walking/exercise partner. I LOVE my current partner but she has never struggled with weight and she weighs 105 soaking wet:)) Look forward to chatting with others struggling....

I don't know where in VA you are, but I had my surgery with Dr. Salameh at Virginia Hospital Center.  (You can google the contact information.)  He has a support group that meets monthly and it might be open to people who have had their surgery elsewhere.  It might be worth checking out if it's close by - could be a good way to meet people?

Thank you for the heads up. Arlington is actually where my husband works, he's stationed up at the Old Guard. I'll check it out!

Go to meetup.com and there is a WSL support group that meets once a month in Alexandria.  Very nice ladies some of whom have kept the weight off for 5-10 years and others who are in the middle of losing.  I too had my surgery with Dr. Salameh but I would not recommend the support group at VA Hospital Center, especially with the new nutritionist.  Just met with her for my 1 year follow up and was not happy with her smirking, know-it-all attitude and not answering ONE question that I asked about continuing to lose after 1 year (and 110 lbs. off) or about carb, sugar and calorie guidelines.  You can give the support group there a try, but I found it depressing and not helpful.  Just my opinion, but you should know all sides of the coin.

Clarification: I do want to say that Dr. Salameh is FANTASTIC, an awesome surgeon and I had no problems post-surgery at all.  I also really liked the former nutritionist, just not the current one who just started with them.  The last group meeting I went to was not well-run and there were a couple of patients there who took over the meeting and were kind of vicious if you did not agree with them.

I had a totally different experience with the new NUT at VHC!  I thought she was great and really listened to me and what was working for me. I'm so sorry your experience was different.

I'm also sorry the support group is crummy. I live in SoMD, so it's farther than I was to drive on Thursday nights which means I've never checked it out! I tried to find a support group locally, but it's suboptimal. I just use OH for my virtual support group needs now!
