Help! How can I convince hubby?

He is one of those people who thinks I should exercise more, eat less, and everything would be fine.  He is scared of medical procedures in general.  My only comorbidity now is sleep Apnea, so he just just thinks WLS is too drastic.  I know my chances of losing weight and keeping it off w/out WLS are nil.  he would like me to try again.  He's actually supportive of my weight in general, just not in favor of WLS.  Does anyone know of a simple source that explains the statistics, so he can understand?  Thank you!!

You could have him read some research on wls, the statistics of long term succes for people who lose weight on their own against propel who have wls. The bariatric office you attend should also have some spousal info. However at the end of the day you need to do you. Make a decision for yourself perhaps once he sees you are confident in your decision he will get on board if not then he can get over it later. :)

Firstly, you should be doing this for you and as an adult, you really don't need his permission.

However, to get him on board, I would suggest you get him to go to support group meetings, doctor's appointments etc.   Most men are NOT going to read good medical information and perish the thought that he would Google weight loss surgery, because there is a lot of disinformation on weight loss surgery, ie, most of us die in surgery or regain all our weight and die before we're 10 years out!!!  Lots of scaremongering and negativity.

If all else fails, get him to come here and we'll put him straight

Thanks for the reminder, I am an adult, but its so much easier when my he agrees with me.  He is away alot in the fall, so I will talk to him when he is home and see if i can get him on board.    Thanks.

Suzi, My husband was totally against me having surgery. I had him attend the same class I had to attend at the very beginning "New Patient Orientation". They discussed the WL program for RNY, Sleeve and Lap Band. He was able to get a better understanding about the surgeries and was impressed with the procedures. After attending, he said it was totally up to me and he would support my decision. I was excited and happy. Show you husband some of the before and after pictures on this site. Good luck.

I took my husband to the initial informational WLS seminar, and after to consult with the surgeon. After the surgeon answered all of his questions (mine too), he explained each procedure benefits and risks in depth. I have included my husband in every step of the process, including my revision surgery 10/13. It has given him a good foundation on how my specific needs affects us both.

Thanks, too late for that, but i will see if i can bring him to the supervised weight loss sessions my surgeon's office runs. That's a great idea.

Suzi, is it possible for you to set up a consult with the surgeon for him to discuss the procedure and answer his questions? I do think that having him attend the supervised weight loss sessions with you, and that might help him to understand that weight loss is much more intricate than the average person believes. Our bodies are individual, meaning that some of us do not metabolize or process in the same way.
