Osteoporosis and Alendronate

My PCP messaged me with good news that I thought it important to share.  My recent bone density scan revealed that I went from osteoporosis to osteopenia.  I had been very faithful taking my calcium supplements, but eventually had to go on Alendronate when my first bone density came back showing osteoporosis.

The thing is - you can still do everything you are supposed to; exercise, eat right, take your supplements and still be subject to conditions as a result of malabsorption.  There are other risk factors for osteoporosis; but for us gastric bypassers, malabsorption is a big one.

So, while it's important to take your supplements, it's also important to consistently follow up with lab tests and other studies to make sure you're on top of things.  No matter which wls you had . . . take NOTHING for granted!
