Is This Good or Bad Behavior???

Wintertime has set in and so has my desire to have hot chocolate since I can't have coffee (causes my pouch to be VERY unhappy).  I have been sipping on a protein powder based hot chocolate mix that contains 4 grams of sugar, 10 grams of protein,  and is about 100 calories per serving.  I have been averaging 2-3 servings a day.  This last week, I have noticed that my non-caloric drinking has slightly decreased, but my "hot chocolate" drinking has been increased, with me substituting a serving of hot chocolate for a serving of non-caloric fluid.

So my question is this: Is this a good thing or bad thing? My protein intake has increased by 30 grams a day so that should justify it right??? And the hot chocolate is water based so I am taking in water.

Thanks for your advice!

That is way too many calories and grams of sugar for me, but if you are happy with your current weight and it is not causing you to gain, then do what you want.

I like Swiss Miss Diet Hot Chocolate. It only has 25 calories a serving.

I know you are ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!  Honestly, it is too many calories for me.  I am DEFINITELY not happy with my current weight. I am struggling with losing my baby weight and getting to a new goal.  I don't like alternative sweeteners. I'd rather have either some sugar or none.  Thank you for the reality check. I needed someone to tell me what I am doing is wrong...even though I knew it. :)

Uh oh, the sugar/chocolate addiction is kicking in! Drinking your calories is a sure way to get on the regain train. Even though you put protein powder in your drink it's still not a good idea to have so much hot chocolate. I could sprinkle protein powder on top of my cookies, but it wouldn't be a good idea to eat them. 1 doesn't cancel the other. That's like saying I burned 300 calories exercising so now I can eat 300 more calories. No,no,no.

You are ABSOLUTELY right T.  I am going down a slippery slope on the regain train.

i can relate to wanting to drink something sweet. i love coffee and used to sweeten it with honey. was my FAVE. but ultimately i had to be real with myself and stop drinking the extra calories. so now i just drink the coffee unsweetened. took a bit of getting used to but i've grown to like it.

letting go of drinking calories was one of the first steps i took to beating my regain (still very much in progress). since you said you want to lose baby weight, letting go of the hot chocolate might be a good step in that direction.

As of today, the hot chocolate has been removed from my food regimen and substituted with unsweetened herbal tea. I feel like I'm going to die but I know I will feel better in the end.

For me, 100 extra calories of lean protein has a wayyyyy different effect than 100 extra calories of sugar. The sugar spikes my craving for more sugar and is a slippery slope to more bad choices and guilt. For me, it's not worth the roller coaster.  300 extra sugar calories a day would send me over the edge and into sugar-binge land.

I fill my need for a hot comforting drink with flavoured herbal teas, there are some delicious ones out there if you find a fancy tea shop.

Just picked up a variety pack today of fruit infused herbal teas. I have to admit they are not my favorite but worth the sacrifice in the end...I hope?

I agree with others, sugar-free hot chocolate mix is the way to go.

Alternately, you can heat up a chocolate protein drink and it's not too bad. Pure Protein is WAY more protein (25g) for just a few more calories, and probably a bigger serving size than the kind you're drinking.
