Coming out of the Woodworks

I quietly had my surgery right before the Christmas break at work. I didn't let anyone know, and especially didn't let my own family know about it, in case I didn't go through with it.  When I got back to work, I had to fill out the absentee form and the person processing it asked how the surgery went (when she saw why I was out).  I told her what it was for and she clapped her hands and did the happy dance.  I'm like, why?  She had just had the same thing done a year ago, but I didn't know her before that and I would have never guess she was ever so heavy.  She said another person here had the same surgery just a few weeks before mine.  I spoke with her. She directed me to another who had had it some time before her.  All tolled, so far, I've found about 10 people here at work that have had WLS and are all happy about it, most have completed the loss, some are in the process of getting approved. We seem to be starting our own support group when its all said and done. Amazing.

I've been robbed! My grandbaby stole my heart!  She just raised her hands and I surrendered.

That is so awesome!  I know that when I my surgery, I was like the poster child (the first one to have it done) as soon as I was 6 mos out, I had people coming to me left and right wanting to know more about the procedures and process (we all worked for our insurance carrier) By the time I had left the company, there were 8 that had already had surgery and 6 more going through the process.  Since that time, more and more people who worked with us have done the same.

That is great...however, I would caution that person that she really should not be discussing medical issues of others at work (when she told you of a co-worker who'd also had WL surgery).  Not a good road to go down, and while I'm sure she meant no harm it could mean she's breaking confidentiality.  Just a thought.  Good luck and I hope you reach your goal with no issues!
