i met with my nutritionist this morning and was told I will be on mushies for a month? I know every doctor is different but it seems like a long time. Of course I will follow doctors orders.

Just would like to know others experience.

I was on full liquids for several weeks, then soft foods for several weeks before I was able to advance.

My surgeon advances quickly, but I know many people here that were on liquids for weeks and weeks.  I was able to advance to pureed foods at 4 days post op and then advance again about a week later.  I was eating regular food at about 3 weeks post op.  Many people don't move that fast, and I had an "incident" at about 10 days post op and ended up in the ER thinking I had damaged my pouch.  It was just irritated though, so I just reset to liquids for a few days until it felt better and continued on my merry way.

I suggest that you stick to your surgeons plan.  They know how they reroute your insides and so they know how you should eat.

Good luck and congrats!

Mine was exactly the same as Sparklekitty's. It worked well for me. I am always surprised when I see people eating dense proteins and protein shakes so quickly. I ate mashed potatoes, refried beans, and eggs in the mushy stage.  I also ate beef jerky (with Doctor's approval) at about week 3 or 4 in little bits to help with protein. Chewed it into paste so it was easily digestible. It really helped with energy and protein.

I'm still on semi soft /mush type foods but I see that some who had surgery the same day as me or later than me have a more advanced diet.. but I am sticking by the guide my Dr. and dietitian gave me

pre op diet - 2 weeks liquids, no dairy

post op -

week one - clear liquids only

week two - full liquids ( just added cloudy protein drinks and carb master milk )

weeks 3 through 5 -  mush/semi soft type foods (eggs/cottage cheese/yogurt)

I was on liquid diet for 1 week prior, clears the last 2 days before. After I was on clears for 2 days, then could go back to liquids after. After my first 2 weeks I could swallow pills and move to purees. I was on purees for 4 weeks.

I was on soft foods (mashies) for 6 weeks, after 2 weeks of full liquids. You'll get through it, it's not that bad. Your stomach needs to heal from major surgery, and it takes a while for that to happen.
