Sweetner

I want to purchase a sweetner, but don' t know what is best.  When I was on Atkins, I used Splenda only to hear that it is not good.  Then when I was on Weigh****chers, Truvia was the in thing, now I hear about Stevia.  So what is best for us?  I liked Splenda because it didn't alter the taste of my drinks as much as the pink or blue packets...

Any guidance would be appreciated.

I almost exclusively use Splenda.  You hear so many things about everything being bad, but at this point I'm not too worried about it unless I'm having side effects from it.  I have no side effects from Splenda, so that it what I use.

I believe Truvia is stevia, with maybe some sugar alcohols in it.  I don't like the taste of stevia and most sugar alcohol gives me diarrhea.

Sugar alcohol was my concern as well.  I think I will stick with what I know.  I never had any issues with Splenda and really don't intend to use it regularly, just want to have an option for sweet tea every once in a while.

Thank you

I say use it as long as you do not have any issues from it. I used to use a lot of Splenda but about the 3 year mark I was having horrible cravings constantly and wanted to eat everything in sight. I gave up Splenda and switched to Stevia. I'd say 95% of my cravings have gone away. Except for a little holiday weight gain each December, I have not had any problems maintaining my weight since giving up Splenda. Coincidence? Maybe, but for me, I needed to switch. For many others, Splenda has no effect.

I never met an artificial sweetener I didn't like (since saccrin), but the blue stuff is still my favorite.

PS   If I have several sug alcol hard candies or gum i get oddly liquid and gassy in the poop department.

Sorry, I am a health nut in all other departments, But a little artificial sweetener makes the world go round.

I like Splenda the best.  Anything Stevia-related leaves a metallic taste in my mouth.  If Splenda is not available, I'll use Equal or Sweet N Low.  Use whatever you like the best.  With the exception of people with phenylalanine sensitivity, artificial sweeteners don't really pose a danger unless you're backing up a dump truck full of it to your mouth.  Then you might have other issues!  :D

I did not use artificial sweeteners re-WLS. It was tough getting used to them. I find the liquids taste better than the powders. I use a liquid Splenda called Sucra-drops I buy on Amazon. I even gives you a little travel size. Skinny girl brand has liquid stevia I use sometimes. For baking I use Swerve which is an erythritol mix. For all the discussion over sweeteners I figure being MO was killing me faster than using these are and to me it is about taste...
