Night eating how to break the cycle?

Hey guys what time is your last meal or snack for the day? Next to locking my self in the room at night there hasnt been much success in stoping night eating.  My dieticin says to me to just do damage control but i just want to break the cycle completly cuz its just a bad habit in general.  I dont sleep to good i wake up atleast 3 times....example what ill eat a banna...or  a slice of bread with cheese....oatmeal.  Now heres the thing Ill wake up and if I dont eat i wont be able to go back to sleep.  Anyone able to stop this bad habit???

Prior to surgery I was a binge, night, eater.  I worked on this behavior with my psychologist/therapist during my 3 month pre-op nutritional program so after surgery I haven't experienced it like I did. However, sometimes if I work out and don't get enough calories I do get hungry in the evening, 8-10 pm, and I eat a couple Tbsp. of cottage cheese, a small piece of meat, or other food high in protein.  The foods you are eating are high carb. which trigger your blood sugar to rise and in turn create hunger.

Take an ambien and eat in the morning!

One of the side-effects associated with Ambien is sleep-binge-eating, so this is probably not a good idea.

I've used Ambien off and on for several years (1/2 a tab), and have never experienced night-eating (or night-walking) or any other behavior than just sleeping better.  

Seriously, if you can't sleep, take a sleep aid that's a safe choice for your situation.

Lunesta? Melatonin ....whatever it takes for him to go to sleep and stay asleep.

PS I know it's a possibility ...but it's so rare. Many people take Ambien without that side effect.

The last time I took an Ambien, DH came into the kitchen to find me toasting and eating a whole bag of marshmallows on our electric range.  He said I had a glazed over look in my eyes.  I have no recollection of the event.  I threw the rest of the pills away the next day!

Another form of late night self-gratification would get you back to sleep, on zero calories.

...and, actually, heavy breathing and oxygenation burns a lot of calories!  Carry on!
