1st DEXA Body Composition scan results

Finally did my DEXA body composition scan, and at first I was really excited about the results. Now I'm kind of confused, and skeptic.

For those who dont know, my understanding of how the machine works is using essentially xrays, of multiple wavelengths/strenghts. They check your bone density and then compare that with your height/weight to other scans of your body to identify fat and muscle mass.

In the morning when I woke I weighed 191 in the buff, and on the machine I was 195.7, which is probably right. Jeans, boxer briefs, undershirt, shirt.

The issue/confusion I have, is it says my bone weights are a total of 7 pounds, for my entire body. Seems low? But, I have no idea.

Here are my results below, showing total mass, lean mass, fat mass. The lady said I had good lean muscle mass. I really wish I had done this when I first had surgery or just prior, to compare now.

27.2% body fat currently

Hmm, I had a scan last year in April and I can't remember what mine was off of the top of my head. Funny thing is, I'm going for my DEXA tomorrow morning, so I'll be able to compare to yours. Mind you, I'm only 5'3", female and almost 44 years old, so it won't compare, really.

BMC is not your total bone weight. It's Bone Mineral Composition.

Well, I'm still confused. If my total weight is 195.7, fat mass is 51.3, lean mass is 137.3, then the balance is pulled from BMC of 7 still

So either I way more than 195, or the lean mass or fat mass is off - unless lean mass includes some bone weight?

It has nothing to do with your total weight. It's a bone mineral composition for your density T score.

...ok, I guess

So, then my skeletal structure falls in my lean mass of 137.3 (muscle + bones) lbs

My fat mass is 51.3 lbs

And the other 7 (BMC) doesnt count, and I'm actually 188, even though I weighed 191/195?

I dont know what the answer is, but the numbers dont add up overall

My bones weigh SOMETHING, and I have no clue how to calculate it from the DEXA results.

I did a Google for average adult bone weight and it seems to be around 15% of your body weight. According to the Google, for a 200 lb person, that's about 27-30 lbs. Keep in mind that human bones aren't hollow like bird bones or dried out like in a skeleton--you have active marrow making red blood cells and all sorts of stuff in there. That's a cool report though and it will be interesting to see how it changes if you start lifting weights.

Per my documentation received with my DEXA it says "BMC measures the weight of the entire skeleton"
