Just wanting to share some success

Last week I met with the doctor for my initial consultation and I told him that I am fully prepared to change my life starting today and I understand that surgery is just one piece of the puzzle. We set out some immediate goals to work on since it will be 6 months before I can do the surgery because of the insurance requirements.

Anyways, he put me on a 1600 calorie, high protein eating plan. Told me to start walking 4-5 days a week and to cut back on the soda. I started last Thursday.

I have went from an ungodly amount of soda a day to only 3 cans a day. I'm slowly weaning myself off. It will be my biggest hurdle but I'm proud of how much I cut back and how much water I've started drinking.

I'm journaling all my food and I've been walking everyday. I went from maybe 1000 steps a day to at least 5000. Today I'm already over 8,000. My goal for the first four weeks is at least 7000 a day and increase each month.

Well, I stepped on the scale today and I'm already down 5.8 LBS!!!!!!! I feel so proud of myself.

My daughter has even started eating healthy and being more active. She said she's my partner. She's only 10 but has a little extra weight that should come off and she's wanting to have a healthier body and healthy heart too. (We don't discuss looks or being thin or being prettier or anything like that.) She is even trying new foods. There is a really cool app for kids called Kurbo. It's for anyone but geared well for kids. Emily journals her food and it keeps track of healthy choices and portions. It doesn't track calories or anything but tracks if it is a 'green or yellow' food-your healthy choices or a red food- a junk food. It encourages them to limit their red foods to less than 6 a day. There's games and encouragment and videos that teach about portions and healthy choices. Really awesome. Anyways, she's already lost 1 lb as well. :)

Anyways, I know this was very long but I just wanted to share somewhere. Thanks for listening to me. :)

So many wins your post! I was glad that I made good use of that 6 month waiting period. Tho, in full disclosure, I had some colossal fails during that time period, too.

I'm looking forward to following your journey! It is all so worth it.

You are off to a fantastic start and I love the enthusiasm! I am excited that your 10 year old has decided to join you on your journey. In no time at all, you will be taking 10,000+ steps daily.

Keep up the outstanding work!

I really like your focus with your kiddo on healthy choices and healthy living and not on looks. She'll get enough pressure on looks and dieting from her peers. Kudos on cutting back on the soda, that stuff is truly addictive. You'll be very glad you got a lot of these habits started pre-op! Way to go!!

Thank you. It's really important that she doesn't focus on looks and I'm glad she is only 10 and hasn't really hit that part of life where looks and being skinny is focused on in school so hopefully we are handling this the right way. Parenting is hard. :)
