This month I bought 34 cheesecakes, 13 1/2 sheet cakes and 3 full sheet cakes. Yesterday I ordered 32 tins of butterscotch fudge. Tonight I will be buying 40 two pound containers of chocolate cherries from Harry and David.

I've never been a big sweets guy but I will say that I put a lot of thought into my choices and I didn't eat any of it. I will say that it will be much tougher with the cherries but I'm so conscious of my choices now. I know that I will have a couple and that is my choice but I also know what will happen without self control.

These lessons that I've learned are priceless.

(FYI I moved into sales with my company)

I can't help but wondering if the people who get all these sweets and snacks are thinking "ugh, I wish people would stop with all the food at the holidays."

I do food all of the time. I've tried different stuff from fresh fruits to smoked meats. Sweets are unfortunately the favorite. I have notes on 150+ referral sources and their staff and only about 5 really like anything else.

Which just seems so strange to me. Like.. we can't be the only population of people who avoids sweets, right?

When I was going to chemo with my dad, there was ALWAYS food and the nurses would often complain about it. I have no idea how nurses are able to stay healthy at all.

Most of the time I ask if they would like "x, y or z". This is how I've learned their preferences. When given options they almost always choose sugar. Nobody wanted the sugar free cheesecakes. I think that as a WLS community we are much more aware of our choices.

Heh - I wouldn't want sugar free cheesecake either. I prefer eating the "real thing" or something that is healthy by without tweaking.

I feel like this will be a challenge for me in my future career and definitely something I'll want to make sure I'm prepared for at the holidays! :D

I have a friend who is an emergency room nurse - very experienced and very good at what she does. She smokes, drinks and buys/eats more junk food than anyone I've ever known. Her BMI is probably somewhere around 50 and her DH was much higher until recently when he started having heart issues and the doctor read him the riot act. He is also a cancer survivor and was supposed to keep his weight down but his wife keeps buying junk food and cooking high calorie meals.

I know her job is very stressful. In other words, even those who know better (which was probably most of us) still struggle.

Yes. I know a lot of people in the same situation. Toward the end of my dad's life he would make really negative comments about obese nurses (thankfully he made them to me and not to them) and I'd explain to him time and time again that nursing is a really hard career and that you spend so much time in high stress situations taking care of other people that it's really hard to take care of yourself.

It's such a challenge :/

Yum! How fun is that to pick out such great treats. One of the things I love about my sleeve is that I finally feel I have control over food vs. vice versa. I can now be around food and not have the slightest desire to eat it.
