6 month diet before wls

So I am brand new here just at the beginning of this journey. Thankfully I have coverage for this but they require a 6 month medically supervised diet. Reasonable, yet I have tried diets and prescriptions etc. I'm worried if I lose weight I will drop below 40 BMI but not lose enough to make a difference. I also worry I won't lose weight at all! Anyone out there that has had to go through this? How were your results?

My insurance also required a six month supervised diet. It was fine--I didn't actually lose any weight. Check with your program, but often they will submit to insurance with your starting weight.

Most will use your starting weight before the diet, so make sure that weight is documented by either your PCP or WLS surgeon.

Definitely check with your program about what they require. Some only care about your starting weight. Some require that you lose weight during the process. Just make sure you get all the rules and restrictions and, preferably, get them in writing.

You need to ask your insurance company what outcomes, if any, from the 6-month supervised diet they require. Some plans just ask that you check the boxes and do it, others require that you lose some but stay over a certain BMI, others require a particular amount lost. Every plan is different, so none of us here can tell you how your plan will work; just make a quick phone call to find out.

I was borderline and was afraid my insurance would cancel the surgery. I worked on changing behaviors and working on my problem areas. For instance, I have a problem with night time eating, I worked on this area. I ate for emotional areas, I worked on this area. My insurance used the weigh-in at the initial meeting but I was scared they might change their policy up until I had the surgery.

My insurance company used my starting weight, but my surgeons office was worried, so they didn't "officially"record my last weight as it was below a 35 BMI due to the pre-op diet (just to be safe).

Do not get dicouraged this is just one step. Take it one step at a time and one day at a time. sometimes it will be minute by minute.

Know if you are having carb cravings they can be reduced greatly with sublingual B complex( under the tongue per label instructions)It takes about 3-4 days to get full benefit. this worked for both Mom and I.We had surgery in 94 her in March and I in October, and both had good results.

I had to loose 40 lbs before the surgeon would do my surgery, and it did take me about 6 months to do it.I tried every diet available and destroyed my metabolism.in doing so.700-800 calories was what it took to lose very slowly..more and I gained or maintained

.My Mom was on a 400 calorie a day supervised diet( did a metabolism study and documented a 4/5ths reduction in diet needs to maintain body weight on her... she could eat a half of a bologna sandwich and maintain her weight of over 350lbs.....was on strict diet until she lost 50 lbs..thru prescription diet of shake or pudding..that diet was horrible but necessary to show the Dr committment to following instructions.and ..This can help reduce the size of your liver and make complications less likely- like knicking an enlarged liver etc.

..I would also do a liver cleanse to help your liver function better..(I use milk thistle as it is commonly available and considered safe by endocrinologists, for fatty liver syndrome. We lost a friend to this disease and his specialists told him milk thistle had extended his life by a minimum of 2 years.).. to expel the fats your body is trying to shed and giving you a cleaner liver to function with post surgery. If your surgeon does not remove your gall bladder this could extend the time you have a gall bladder...theoretically, unless it is already diseased.

hang tough You are so worth it!
