Hip flexor Pain

Had bariatric surgery 5 years ago. 60 lb weight loss. Maintained it since.

About 2 years ago, I stopped taking iron due to elevated hematocrit levels and stopped calcium dosing to 600-800 mg daily at the recommendation of my endo.

Not sure if it's a coincidence or as a result, but i've been experiencing various pain including what feels like a psoas tear, hip flexor pain, enthesitis/enthesopathy diagnosis without underlying issues like RA, PSA etc.

Ortho/PT visits haven't helped much. Any input or even an advice of what type of doc to see for this would be great.

Thanks.

Have you had your blood work done since you stopped taking supplements? If not, it would probably be a good idea to have that done; your surgeon or your GP can order the tests.

Hi sheerfun:

Did you have any imaging tests (ie, MRI or CT) to confirm the diagnosis of iliopsoas muscle tear or are you assuming you have this condition because of some symptoms you are having?

Are you into sports? Iliopsoas muscle tears can occur in athletes, runners, cyclists, and individuals who do exercises with repetitive jumping.

It's unclear from your post whether you were already evaluated by an Orthopedist. If that wasn't helpful, you might consider going to a Sports Medicine Specialist.

But, keep in mind, if this is a self-diagnosis that you made, you would be better off having your Primary Care Physician do the initial evaluation. Then he/she will direct you to the correct diagnostic tests and Specialist, if necessary.
