New to surgery

I am a 42 yo with 6 children who went from 120 to 300 thru 5 pregnancies and 20 years. I am considering weight loss surgery but have not actually done "diets" thru my weight gain journey. I never had weight problems until I began having children. I had twins and gestational diabetes than caused a lot of weight gain. My question is...... I've never done a "weight loss" diet. My weight has gradually increased over the last 20 years. Is this going to stop me being approved for a weight loss surgery? Are they going to require me to do some weight loss "diet" before considering me for surgery?

depends on your insurance policy (and sometimes, it depends on the surgeon - but usually it comes from the insurance company). I remember having to write down all the diets I'd been on - and they also required a six-month supervised diet with a dietitian or physician before they'd approve me for surgery.

My insurance required a 6 month medically supervised period of weight counseling. Prior diets were not relevant. As CatWoman said, it all depends on your insurance and possibly your surgeons preference (though insurance is usually more strict).

I had only truly dieted 2 times prior to weight loss surgery. First time was weigh****chers and the second time was with a nutritionist at my PCP's office.

My insurnace never asked me for records of weight loss efforts- but I'm not sure what my doctors office provided them.
