Romaine Lettuce

I don't usually do this but making an exception because this one is so scary: Stop eating all Romaine lettuce immediately. Not one more bite. CDC just issued this warning and they are serious.

I don't remember any other warnings where they couldn't isolate the source and are telling everyone in the US to stop eating a specific food. Even if it's already been bought and is in your home. Even if it's in that salad you just grabbed for lunch.

If I'm wrong I'll own it. But this time I'm erring on the side of being Chicken Little. Don't take my word for it - you can google it right up. As always, take care of yourselves and your families in whatever way is best for you.

One of my friends shared the warning on Facebook with the added admonishment: "See, I KNEW salad was bad for you!!"

I had a Caesar salad a few weeks ago....so I'm good on the salad front for at least year or so. Looking back-really glad I didn't get sick.

I woke up in between a memory and a dream...

Luckily, I don't eat romaine...or iceberg, usually...Oscar, my grouch pouch, doesn't like either of them...

No, if raw SPINACH gets infected...

If I understand it correctly most strains of E. coli happen are caused by a lack of proper sanitation, at one level or another. There is absolutely nothing that makes Romaine any more or any less susceptible to E. Coli bacteria that other food sources.

You're absolutely right of course. Nothing INHERENT to Romaine makes it any more dangerous than any other type of lettuce.

If you'd have taken the time to check the details though you would have seen that at this moment, Romaine is to be avoided. The CDC doesn't waste it's time disparaging particular greens on the random.

I should have known this was coming.

Amy,

I didn't have to read the whole article, I heard this warning on last evening's news.
