Interesting, and thanks for adding that info., Gwen. I had wondered how she could lose that much weight and didn't appear to have a loose skin issue!

Unfortunately chances they both keep the weight off long term are very slim.

I never been as big as her, but I lost weight many times in my life. Getting to a very small size, very low body fat %. But I never could keep the weight off long term, Or longer than 5 years. Eventually I would gain back, even while still exercising and watching my diet.

I wish her and then together the best. Unfortunately wishes are not enough.

On her Instagram she seems to be doing a lot of advertising and is making money off this, so maybe her odds are a little bit better.

I hope she is getting therapy. I do not believe anyone gets to 485 pounds without something serious he/she needs to come to terms with.

I do wish them well, too.

She said she didn't have weight loss surgery she did it on her own. I didn't know that at first.

To be honest, this kind of thing makes me feel uneasy. Before I got the surgery, I would look at her story and think "Well, look at that, she's my age and weighed twice as much as I do. If she can loose that much so can I! I'm going to make a New Year's Resolution like that too." Then I would make the resolution, be good for a couple days, fall of the wagon, and stay on the loose weight/gain weight merry go round.

I kind of feel like these stories make deciding to get surgery even more stigmatized. I hope everything does work out for her, and that she does keep the weight off, but the message she's sending may be doing more harm than good...

Interesting! I do cringe at the "I lost weight the natural way" stuff, but only because I think it's disparaging to those of us who do opt for WLS. But ultimately we're all going to need the same skills, surgery or not, to keep the weight off long-term. Hard work, determination, lifestyle change, healthy habits, etc.

So I think it's great that she lost the weight, however she did. My hope for her, as it is for all of us who have had WLS, is that she's able to be successful with keeping it off.

Oh yea, I totally agree. I am happy for her and if she does keep it off she'll be doing the same thing we all are, and I do hope she keeps it off. And to be fair, she groups her "natural" weight loss as without the help of surgery or diet pills or person trainers lol

I swear I find that hard to believe. But more power to her! Wish her good luck in keeping it off!
