i am 3 months post op and doing very well but i have a couple of questions. my surgeon ordered a bunch of lab work. even though i am taking a multivitamin and also B12 and calcium with D but vit D level was way low so now i am on prescription vit D 3 times a week for 2 months. has anyone else had this problem? another question-i don't crave the bad stuff anymore like sugar, donuts and cake and pie but yet i really don't care to be around alot of people who are eating this stuff like the people in my apartment complex. anyone else who has had to deal with this issue? thanks

Did you know your pre-op lab levels? My vitamin d has always been low- I've been on prescription D and now OTC both pre and post op.

Does your apartment complex have regular gatherings? I'm not sure why you'd be routinely exposed to other people's donuts, cakes etc in the complex?? I can't deprive the rest of my family of what they like- so there are always pop tarts, tatsykakes etc around. At this stage I can easily live around most snacks. I don't buy the things I specifically crave- but can live around with what I have available for others.

With malabsorptive procedures like RNY and DS, the prescription D is not as effective for us because it's infused in oil. Instead, you can buy the same dosage in dry version (water soluble) either online like Amazon or you can even purchace Biotech brand D (50,000iu) from the pharmacy in Walmart. They keep it behind the counter, but usually have a bottle or two on hand if you ask for it (no prescription needed).

Vitamin D deficiency is very common. Not just with WLS patients, but with everyone. I was on prescription vitamin D for a month or two pre-surgery and have taken OTC vitamin D ever since.

I live in Oregon that is one of the reasons my Vitamin D level was pretty much always low pre-op. I'm doing my labs soon I'll update you and let you know what mine looks like.

If its a gel cap, it's not going to help. I take 2 of the dry D3 50,000 DAILY...
