Weigh in - State lawmaker wants to ban people from using food stamps to buy junk food

You know what is sad? Food is thrown away every day in cafeterias. And if a kid really needs feeding, can they have the food that' gonna be thrown away? No.

My husband is in retail and it's enraging how much food they are forced to throw away. Regulations and liability make retailers afraid or legally unable to give the food to those who need it. Government has enforced waste and starvation.

I bet the homeless would love that food. Instead of giving it to them they have to dumpster dive for it

The dumpsters are locked so the homeless have no access. Beaurocrats made it difficult to be giving for the grocers and even restauranteurs.

I think we can do better than giving low income children someone's leftovers.

If it's fre****'s not leftovers, now is it? Did you read that children who have unpaid balances can be fed whatever? We are punishing children for what their parents can't do or don't do. So, yeah, instead of throwing the food in a dumpster, perhaps we should feed the children with unpaid balances. What did I ever do to you to be attacked by you.

You were the one attacking when you questioned someone's reading comprehension. I simply responded to your original post. You will notice that the original post offered no explaination. You followed up with stuff after our repsonses to you. That's called conversation. Why do you always feel attacked when someone disagrees with you? Why do you attack and name call, or question someone's intelligence, when someone has a differing opinion and expresses it? I seem to remember a goodbye cruel world post from you awhile ago where you said you were leaving this site because of a simple disagreement that you took to extreme. I'm seeing a pattern here.

No, I wouldn't give them garbage. I'd take the food I would have been thrown away rather than feeding children and keep it on the line and let children get seconds and thirds and whatever it takes to fill that child up as opposed to throwing it away. There are children, in a land of plenty, that go home to nothing to eat. Then we have children who are shamed because they have unpaid balances and is that their fault? No, but they are the ones being punished. So would I feed a child from a garbage can? I said gonna be thrown away, as in that is what WILL happen to the uneaten food that is not feeding any child. You have no clue about these children. I have 3 children on my caseload who have been removed from their parents custody. Why do you think that is? Let me spell it out for you. They have been beaten, raped, molested by their parents. So don't tell me about compassion for a child. I have gone home crying way more than once because of what has happened to children and you probably have no clue to what children go through. I said the food was going to be thrown away or gonna, which of course, is slang for going to. In other words, WILL be thrown away. Rather than making assumptions, maybe you should ask questions, like did you mean this? Then I would have responded no and explained it more fully. My language disordered kiddos do better than this.
