Protonix/Pantoprazole shortage?

I've been trying to get my GERD medication Protonix refilled for about 2 weeks now and the pharmacy says they can't get their hands on any. I did a little googling and it seems like there is a shortage of the drug at the moment. Is anyone else experiencing problems with this? I've started substituting Omeprazole OTC because it's another PPI, but if someone has a better substitution, I'm all ears. GERD is stupid and I hate it.

Is Nexium a PPI? I've heard really good things about it.

It is a PPI!  I started taking it in January when an ultrasound found an ulcer.  I switched to OTC Prilosec a few weeks ago when the Nexium ran out, and I'm super excited that I'll be able to go back to Nexium in a few days.

I started on Protonix through my surgeon directly after surgery.  After 2 mos it wasn't covered under my insurance so surgeon changed me to Dexilant.  I think its a heavy duty one but have had no issues with it for 11mos.  Im not sure id go otc if you have gerd.

Just my .02.

Dexilant is my miracle drug. After not getting anywhere with prilosec and protonix. But, you dont want to take a stronger heavier PPI if you can avoid it because of the long term consequences (main one for me now is the fact that it interferes with absorption of iron, even for people who have never had WLS).

You can take prilosex twice - once in am and once at bed, if you havent already tried that. While you wait, you can take H2 blockers like zantax and things like that - for immediate relief of symptoms.
