12 years out and still so many complications

Hi all, I had my RNY surgery in December of 2003 and my life has been hell ever since. I did lose 150 lbs and struggle not to lose any more because of all my complications, which is why I am posting. I want to know if anyone has all of these complications also and what you did to help yourself. Since day 1 I have been nauseous and still am to this day. I cannot eat ANYTHING that will not make me nauseous. At the most I can eat 4 bites at a time. It is a living hell as I said above. I also have constant diarrhea, I take 6 Immodium AD tablets a day or I will poop myself. I asked about having my procedure reversed about four years in, but my Doctor said it could make things better or it could make them worse. I seriously don't know what to do anymore.

I developed food allergies (took forever to diagnose) and some food intolerances.

Also - google SIBO... I am pretty sure I get  that, but I am more prone to constipation.  I have to work really hard to have BM.  but if I eat food that I am allergic to - not only I can get both...but it may takes days before my guts get "quiet" . It doesn't take a lot...

I had a DS 17 months ago and I am basically disabled. I guess this forum may be best for me. I was just informed about SIBO so I'm going to check that out. My life has been turned upside down. I had major non related abdominal surgery but know all the Drs just see my DS and say they can't fix me. I hope u find a solution it's hard living life this way! Good luck

Mike, I had a similar story to yours.  A DS followed by years of unrelenting diarrhea.  I had a blind loop and it was keeping bacteria trapped and multiplying.  The toxins that were released attacked my joints and I broke out in a rash.  It was called reactive arthritis and dermatitis.

Anyway, after years of living this way I went back to my surgeon and begged for a reversal.  He told he I couldn't be reversed but he could adjust my common channel so I wouldn't have any issues.

I am happy to say that the surgery did correct my issues.  That and time and lots of time.  I didn't even start to feel better until 6 months after surgery and it was seriously years before I was even somewhat back to normal, whatever that is.

The point is you don't have to live like this.  Find a surgeon who understands.  My surgeon was seeing patient after patient, and not just his, coming in with the same problems.  He will not do the DS any more and the hospital also stopped allowing the procedure.

There are many success stories out there but there are also a lot like us who had life altering problems after the surgery.  It can be fixed and don't give up until you find the answer.

Thank you so much! I'm still having tons of pain. No one even sees me know but my private physician. I'm lucky God sent him to me. Most of the complications I have seem to be to my appendix busting 9 months after my surgery.  My local hospital almost let me die. Anyway thanks for writing it helps knowing others have these problems. I got what I want. I weigh 224 instead of almost 500 pounds but I wonder everyday at what cost.

I know this post is old, but I was wondering if you ended up having a reversal?
