""On the other hand, it's important that pre-ops are aware that they can gain all of their weight back if they choose to get the RNY"""
It's b.s. like this that will continue to get reactions from people, Dreamy, on this particular point, you really don't know what you're talking about, and I say that respectfully, as you've made valid points elsewhere - I'm not here to snark, but on this point, you need to be enlightened. And no, it's not a "defense" nor is there a supposed "fear of regain" prompting this reaction, because I have my act together enough to know I have to follow the protocol for my surgery to ward it off just as you do. You aren't a medical professional - yet you're doling out medical advice. "What you really need is a revision" Whether she does or not - you don't have the background to know - none of the people on this board do.
Anyone can re-gain no matter which surgery they choose and it's NOT common for an RnYer to regain ALL of their excess weight. Regain happens, but not 100%. Not even according to the stats your own DS advocates frequently post. It's the
ALL that puts your statement out in lah-lah land.
Should I direct you to a post from your own board this past week about a 5-yr post-op DSer who is also struggling with significant re-gain?

What's your take on this person's issue - mechanical failure or inability to stay compliant? Surely it "must" be mechanical, right? Or could it be compliance playing a role? But if an RnYer experiences the same problem, it must always be mechanical, eh? Nope.
Many DSers are intelligent, researched, and well-intentioned folks - DS is a wonderful sugery with particular benefits the other options don't have - but every DSer is not an expert on what RnY is or isn't just from listening to other DSers' rhetoric - and if you want to join that category, you might want to reconsider your own exagerration here, whether you reply to me, block me, or whatever.
You, Dreamy, can re-gain after having DS - and you're fooling yourself if you think you have an iron-clad guarantee not too. No matter which surgery or method a person chooses - they have to follow protocol or they'll see problems. Period. That's what every single one of us has in common - surgery is not a 100% lifetime cure for obesity, even if the DS has a better track record in terms of % of regain - I'm not here to say that it doesn't - that doesn't mean that 100% of DSers aren't going to re-gain significant weight if they don't pay attention to their intake. And more to the point - it doesn't mean RnY has 100% regain in 100% of people 100% of the time!
