Dreamfields Pasta and more...
Ok, someone help a girl out...I have heard so much about Dreamfields pasta - but when I finally found some (an hour away), the carbs were as high as regular pasta?!?! What gives?
Also - I was looking at sugar-free candy vs regular candy and they have the same amount of carbs too....just no sugar...what is the difference here?
What am I missing? Break it down for me as I am apparently having a dumb morning....Thanks!!!
You are looking at regular carbs. As far as the candy goes, to get the "net" carbs you subtract the sugar alchohol and the fiber from the main amt of carbs. So if something has 25 carbs per serving, 15 sugar alchohols and 3g of fiber, it would have 7 net carbs per serving. A lot of brands do this math right on the back for you, Dreamfields does I believe as well. As far as the pasta goes, I'm still confused as to their logic...they say "5 digestible carbs per serving", so I understand that....but I don't get the logic. I just try to not eat it too often. It IS good though!
ALSO--take it easy with the SF candy. CVS has some AWESOME sf stuff, and I went a little crazy with it Friday afternoon and ended up really sick...stick to one serving to live happily!
The Dreamfields I use has 5 carbs per 1/2 cup. I wonder if you found the right stuff?
The candy is sweetened with sugar alcohols. These are technically carbs. But they are carbs your body can't absorb. Be careful with this stuff because it can cause diarrhea and gas. Eat very small quantities at first and see how it affects you.
I picked up a bag of the Russell Stover's similar to like a Mounds type candy, chocolate and coconut....I ate 2 small pieces and it was not a good experience...LOL My stomach blew up like a balloon and I had terrible gas and it was alomost instant. I guess the sugar alcohols really set me off. I avoid them now. Some people don't seem to be bothered as much by it.

I count carbs all the same. Also be careful of that sugar free candy. I do much better just to have a bite or two of the real thing rather than a sugar free version. Sugar alcohols have always given me gas even before surgery. Dreamfields is good but I also use whole wheat pasta or a whole wheat pasta blend. My family likes it and I usually only have a bite or two and focus my meal around the protein using the pasta as a small side.
I owed it to myself to research the duodenal switch before consenting to any other weight loss surgery and so do you. Check out DSFacts.com and DuodenalSwitch.com for more information. Remember think twice, cut once, revisions are risky and revision surgeons are rare.

Why do you say that Dreamfields Pasta only has 5 grams of digestible carbs when the nutrition label states that it has 41 grams of carbohydrates?
While the total number of carbohydrates is the same as regular pasta, our patent pending formula and unique manufacturing process protects all but 5 grams of carbohydrates from being digested. The Dreamfields fiber and protein blend creates a protective barrier to reduce starch digestion in the small intestine. The unabsorbed, or protected, carbohydrates then pass to the colon where they are fermented, providing health benefits like fiber.
there's more info there too.
personally, I prefer Barilla PLUS... has 10g protein per serving.... Dreamfields only has 7 (7 is still good... but 10 is better)
Then again, the Barilla DOES have more "usable" carbs.... but I don't eat pasta enough to worry about it as much... and I've lost all I want to lose, so right now it's a maintenance thing for me, so I WANT some carbs in my diet.
