How do you calculate how much your excess skin weighs?

I've heard lots of people chime in on the excess skin issue and how you must make an allowance for the extra skin's weight when monitoring the scale.

My question is how do you know how much extra skin you're actually carrying around?  I'm sure this varies from person to person depending on height, age, starting weight, etc.  I'm 5'10 and a half, 26 years old, in pretty good shape and my skin is doing pretty well.  Highest ever weight was 326.  Preop weight 280.  Current weight 205.  My personal goal is 170-175.  I have some sagginess in the arms, inner thighs and a little bit in the butt, but everywhere else is hanging in there.  No pun intended.

I've been in a pretty stubborn stall/slow down for the past few months.  (Started stalling at 5 months post-op and have only lost 5 lbs over the past 2.5-3 months, grrrr!)  I'm still a good 30-40 lbs from goal.  I know nowhere near all of that is skin, of course, but what would be a ballpark estimate?  How does one "figure" this?

I don't know of a 'way' to figure it.  All I can relay my experience.  I was 320lb, was already at 200 in the 6th grade - so lots of years of fat.  Lots of way stretched and saggy skin.  The took LOTS of inches of skin off me, and it didn't weigh nearly as much as I thouhg . . . . about 3.5 lbs for my upper body lift and a touch over 4lbs for my extended tummy tuck ( and that was a HUGE band of skin measuring 17" from top to bottom).  I did have one PS tell me, based on pics, that it was about 10lbs, another thought around 15-20 lbs.  Ended up less than 8lbs.  I was hoping for more :)

I had the same kind of experience.  Pre-op I had a breast reduction; they were like an I -or- J cup, HUGE!!  They took as much as they could off, about half, and that still left me larger than a DDD.  Anyway, I was expecting this to be at least 10#, and it was less than 4#.  Of couse, this was tissue & skin, but I think there isn't much difference in the weight when you consider the volume.

Normal BMI (24.9)  =  159#:  would have to compromise my muscle mass to get here without plastics, so this is not a goal.

My dream is to get these bolders sized down and relieve the stress/pressure on my neck, shoulders and back.  My consult with plastics said "I might be able to get you down to a large C small D, that's it."  Sigh...Of course, my dream is that they each weigh 10 pounds a piece!  LOL!  If nothing else, just to get the darned things lifted before I can tuck them into my front pockets would be nice!

Best thing I ever did for myself, prior to my DS!

Unless you have some really, really bad skin issues I would not think more than five to 10 pounds.  They told me they probably took off about five pounds of skin after my TT and I have no idea what they took off with the arms.

the numbers given to me by my plastic surgeon were
6-8lbs of excess skin, connective tissue and deflated fat cells per 100lbs lost that figure
or percentage will increase the more you have to lose

so a super super morbidly obese person who cared the majority all their weight through the gut area may have 8-10% of of total weight lost left over as skin.

just remember you have the excess fat cells, connective tissue and skin everywhere so even with plastics they will not remove all of it for most people.

Lost 221 you may have from low figure 14 lbs to high of 22 lbs of excess skin: so at your current weight pre-plastics
205-22= 183 calculated weight adjusted BMI26
205- 14=191 calculated weight adjusted BMI27

mind you I am at the medical office with a BMI wheel in my hand sure makes those 1/2 inches easier to do, the calculator on this site only does it by the full inch.

Gratitude is my attitude

Hmmmm - I'd never heard that before.  Being a definite apple, with about no legs and no butt, I got rid of about 4% of my weightloss in skin with my upper body lift and extended tummy tuck.  There's still some on my tummy that I wish was gone (I didn't get the anchor cut), and despite the fact that my legs were tiny, I now have waaaay more than I'd like on my inner thighs.  My butt is a little droopy, but I wouldn't say I have a lot of excess skin there.  So, if I shot at even the low end of that percentage, I might actually still have 8lbs of excess skin and stuff.  Hmmm!  Interesting.

This is excellent, very helpful!  But where does the 221 come from?

I would guess from the current weight you have listed in your ticker.
