Hormone Replacements, anyone?

I did actually use some sort of estrogen patch for awhile, though I don't remember the name/brand or anything.  It just didn't work for me.  It didn't stay stuck!

I thought the patch I was on was unnecessarily large, too.  It was like 2-3in in diameter and was raised.  Clearly not the same thing you are one...I googled it and that thing is teeny!

I'm going to take all these recommendations back to the reproductive endo.

Dr. Vliet specializes in bioidentical replacement hormones and she used to have an office in Texas, but I think she may have closed that office. Here is a link to her website. At least it has great info:

I've read some of her books and she is amazing.

Hope you find answers.  When I moved out of state I called around to find a compounding pharmacy and spoke to the pharmacist.  He was able to recommend a doctor that prescribed the progesterone cream I was using.  That's how I found my new amazing doctor.
Good luck,
Cindy

Kayla, I have had "female" problems since I started my period and wish I had known about bioidentical hormones years ago.

Anyway, I did a search on the internet in my area on the term "bioidentical hormones gynocologist atlanta" or a combination something like that and I was able to find a GYN who specializes in hormones and he is on my insurance so it doesn't cost me anything other than a copay and my insurance doesn't cover the hormones.  Luckily my problem is that I am estrogen dominant so I am just taking progesterone for 21 days every month.  I have to get it made at a compounding pharmacy but it costs me about $30 a month and my flexible spending acct. covers that.

My doctor is great!  The estrogen dominance was the reason for a whole host of problems I was having like fibroids, ovarian cysts, endomitriosis and it was a major contributor to the horrible menstrual migraines I have been suffering my whole life.

I'm pretty sure there are great doctors who specialize in hormones and bioidentical hormones in Ausin,  You just have to do a little research.

Good luck!

Lia

Ah, the problem I am having is that the hormone doctor I found...is on my insurance.  So he'll see me for gyn issues, but the hormone issue costs me $425.  I don't even understand how this is allowed.  But their hormone program isn't able to be reimbursed.  Drives me nuts.  I'll keep looking.

Find another doctor.  Start Googling till you find one you like and can afford.  That amount of money sounds ridiculous.  I wish I had an Austin gyno...but I don't.  There was one I saw in S. Austin and she seemed good but dang it, I can't remember her name.  Sorry.

I have no advice and I'm sorry you are having problems.  Keep searching and find somebody who can help you at a reasonable price.

BTW, docs seem to be able to do whatever they want to do.  Dang it!!

That does sound fishy Kayla,  It doesn't even sound ethical.  Hormones are not a seperate issue from other health issues so why should they be charged seperately and why can't they bill your insurance?

I would definitely keep looking for another doctor.

Hi Kayla,
Is it the pills you were prescribed?  I'm sorry if you mentioned this in a post and I missed it.  I'm at work and nearing the end of a very long day and didn't read every line.
When I went into menopause I asked not to be put on the pill form of premarin.  My MD prescribed the climara-pro patch for me.  The only problem I have with it is I'm adhesive sensitive and it eats me up sometimes (like when I wear it too long).  It has worked WONDERS let me tell you!  It's a weekly patch that you place anywhere on your body but the breasts.  I just stick it on my hip and alternate every week.  I can't live without it.  The adhesive is pretty strong, and even if it comes off you can put it back on and it stays.
I hope you find a solution!
  Best of luck!

Hey Wenda...I have tried premarin (the pill form), 3 birth controls including nuva ring, and I tried a patch.  I didn't know there were so many kinds of patches for estrogen...the one I was using was huge and definitely not sticky enough.  It never stayed on the whole week and once it was off, it wasn't sticky at all anymore.
