Anyone with experience with osteoporosis drugs?
I got a note in the mail today from my PCP with my bone density tests and a note to make an appointment with her to review the results and discuss treatment. It showed significant osteopenia.
I'm just starting to research this further, but I am concerned about the various medications given and my DS. My appointment isn't for a week, but I plan to make a decision on what I will deo or accept before I ever go. I'm kind of a difficult patient....
I would be interested in thoughts and experiences.

Thanks for the info. WOW, what a way to fracture ribs. I, too, don't consider myself frail at all.
Edit: I'm 62 and weaned myself off HRT nearly 10 years ago. A physician friend of mine talked me into transdermal estrogen for awhile. I stopped that in few months ago. May go back on it though. Mmm. Some more things to consider,

Thanks for the great info. can you tell me the name of the Md in Michigan? He sounds like he's knowledgeable and I don't live too far.....I'm outside of Cleveland. Also why did he want you to stop the strontium? Any reason given?
Thanks!

Gail,
I have been on Forteo for over a year. I have had a 25% increase in bone mass in the first year. This included resuming hormones, after being off of them for a bit. I am 55, and osteo also runs in the family... so it is a double whammy, as we have to be so careful with the wls as well.
My endo really believes that all WLS pts with bone issues need to be on injectibles and not on pill forms of bone builders. He said there are many new options coming up as well. Forteo is a two year program of a tiny injection each day. It is painless as the needle is very tiny. The injectible pen is self loading and easy to use.
Let me know if you have any questions. Best of luck as you look at options.
