What is the likelihood the pyloric valve won't function after years of nonuse?

I'm worried about this. I've read that there is a chance that the pyloric valve won't be functional if it isn't used for several years.

It's been six years since my RNY and it doesn't look like I'm going to get my revision surgery anytime soon. I fear the longer I wait, the worse things will be.

Anyone have any ideas on this?

I was born with pyloric stenosis and they had to do surgery on me at six weeks old.  They literally disabled the pyloris so that I could get food down and not starve to death.

Fast forward 30+ years later and I had the DS done and have had no issues.  I have also read about RNY to DS revisions after 20 years of having the RNY...

So, it seems to me that you will be ok.

You've experienced no dumping? I've had wicked episodes of hypoglycemia due to dumping. Not to mention the fact that I'm on Florinef now to help my body hang onto fluids, which I believe may be due to dumping as well. I'm counting on having a functioning pyloric valve.

I'm glad things are going well for you, however.

No dumping here.  But I have never lived any other way so just assuming I'm normal.  I have never done the typical "dumping" things I hear about on the site, but have nothing else to compare it to.

Your pyloric valve still functions in RNY.  It manages secretions from the stomach and empties them like it always did.  It just never sees food anymore because the food bypasses that portion of anatomy and goes thru your pouch as a RNYer.  No worries.  It should function like it always did.
