I'm having my labs done on Wednesday morning.  How many days before should I stop all the vites and supplements?  Not sure if one day or two.  Thanks!!

We're told to stop only 12 hours before. I usually schedule for the crack of dawn and don't have anything after dinner excep****er. I have a protein coffee waiting for me in the car when they get done.

Thanks Gina.  That makes sense since you also must fast 12 hours before bloodwork.

You should ask your surgeon or his/her PA.  My surgeon has had me do a 72 hour vitamin fast before labs, but my next labs, she has dropped to just 24 hours.

There are a couple consistently low areas, and she wants to see if perhaps 72 hours is too long for me.   The PA told me that's to make sure the levels are "real" - as if I were not supplementing at all.

Thanks.  I guess it really does vary from surgeon to surgeon.  I hope your bloodwork is better now that your doctor has you w/o vites for 24 hours instead of 72.

24 hours for me.

But most importantly, make sure you fast for the same amount of time before each draw.  That way your results will be consistent and you can track the trend

Thanks -- I did not even think about consistency!  I'll do 24 hours each time.

12 hours for me. It is funny (and sad) about how different Doctors are on this. Mine told me that she wanted to see where i am at while taking my supplements and that 12 hours was enough time to normalize my tests.
