Is it true that we can only absorb so much protein at a time? I would like to double up on my protein shakes and know that Im not just wasting it..... That would be a 46gram shake..... Thoughts?

Google this and read about it.  There is no real data that says this is correct.  Looks like this was started by bodybuilders and 'fitness guru's' decades ago.  Sort of one of those if you say it enough times, it becomes true things.

It's junk science that anything over 30g of protein is wasted.

If you have a DS especially you'd need a ridiculous amount to even come close to any theoretical "protein limit."  What is true is that a typical unaltered digestive system is thought to absorb 5-10g per hour.  That doesn't mean that the rest goes poof; it actually takes quite some time to digest things, and eventually, yes, it all gets absorbed.  How/if the protein gets used for specific purposes versus getting stored is another story entirely, however with the DS I seriously doubt a huge surplus of protein ever does get stored due to the malabsorption.

Here's the science if you're really curious.

I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!

because of this thinking and having to get the 120 grams that we need I was not doing the drinks like I should because I was having to spread so many out through the day..... It works better for me if I can double up and not do as many then I am able to stick with it a bit better...... If I thought I was wasting it then I would all together just put it off.... Now Im going to double up and just not worry about it. thank you.....

Even we can double up with just the VSG.  You absolutely can with the malabsorption.  It will make it way easier too :)
