suggest eating normal fat intake, don't drink the stuff, but don't go low fat. When DSers consume drastic high fats the potential for enteric hyperoxaluria is pretty high. Unless you have 24 hr urine for stones as part of your yearly lab work.. those who don't won't know till they get stones or kidney disease

You have secondary hyperparathyroidism due to your DS malabsorption, and it is affecting your bone health. You need a lot more dry VitD3 and a lot more Calcium citrate. message me if you want more info

Stop saying you are a failure!!!
GI issues are common with the DS. has your dr tested you for SIBO, do you take a probiotic? I was taking 900B CFU 2xday. sometimes it looked like i was 6 months pregnant.

I do not think Cottam does the DS, I think he does sadi, sips etc.....
congrats on your accomplishment!

meaning supplement ADEK as individual pills...not as a multi.....your common channel is longer than "average" and you are a sadi...things may be different....follow lab work

I would kill the ADEKs.....as time goes on you will see where you will be deficient....and it will most likely be D and K out of the ADEKs....the % in those are typically off balance. keep your eyes out on your lab work....and trend it to catch if you are trending down before you end up in the toilet.

if you have changed nothing with your intake of food and exercise, I would run to the drs....something is wrong....but before doing that...I would journal all my food.....

Vit K deficiencies in the DS community are very very common, it's just that the vast majority of patients dont know and drs dont order vit K lab work. Take a dry Vit K supplement https://www.biotechpharmacal.com/products/k1-1000-vitamin-k1 . I would take a 180 turn to the person who told you to eat more leafy greens...you could eat a field of it and it would make no difference. You will have to take a supplement as long as you have your DS.
best to you

Most PCPs will support you in your future health. Start calling PCPs who are accepting new patients, have an apt then take it from there.
best to you

Yes the surgeons could lengthen my common channel, but my BPL is also very long. The common channel length could help but since my deficiency is rather severe, instead of seeing if the CC lengthening would help then have to go back and have another surgery. The intestinal bypass is fully reversible and this is where the severe malabsorption issue is. This has nothing to do with the VSG, and that is not reversible as it was surgically removed. Thank you.

Hi all,
I will be having a BPD/DS REVERSAL due to severe malabsorption in a few weeks. My DS is too severe, I have a 50 cm common limb and a 300 biliopancreatic limb. Infusions, injections, 45+ pills- supplements/day, osteoporosis and scoliosis caused post DS. I have had to add more and more supplements-the malabsorption is too severe.

Hi all,
Real happy to have found the group here.
I am new here but a grandpa in DS, i am 53 and and a Greek, living in Greece, and had the DS 20 years ago, from Dr. Baltazar in Spain.
It was and still is a huge success and i lost 100 kilos and got to 80 kilos that i currently am from 180 that i was.
I eat everything and being a very naughty patient, i never had any vitamins, apart of iron infusions once in a blue moon,
meaning maybe every couple of years and so on. All blood tests are fantastic by the way, apparently after years imho
our body finds ways to cope with vitamins deficiencies etc.
Been feeling fine all the time and had 2-3 bowel movements a day after the 1st year and remained at that ever since.
But in the last 8 months or so i developed a peculiar uncomfortable condition having greenish, whiteish puss coming out of my (sorry), anus, and being forced to wear special incontinence underpants. My doctor here (an Internist and gastroenterologist said just, that its a side effect of my operation and there is nothing he can recommend apart of some enzymes for my guts (pancreas), that didn't do anything.)
So i am asking for some help here and if there is any one that has had similar side effects and how they dealt with it
if they managed to reduce it or get rid of it.
Thanks to all, good luck with the operation for the ones prepping for it.
Sincerely and with respect to all,
Antonis

Hello OHELP family! Feels so good to be back on Obesity Help... I had RNY Gastric Bypass back in 2004 (I was 15 years old at the time) and was a very active member on Obesity Help. (DR.ADAM NAAMAN, RETIRED, HOUSTON MEMORIAL HERMANN) I was 430 LBS at the time of surgery. I got down to my lowest weight of 185 after 6 years... which was age 21. I slowly, VERY slowly gained weight over the years... today I am 320 LBS and 34 years old. I have been seeing my Gastric Bypass surgeon for about 10 months (DR.MARIO DEL PINO, MCALLEN, TX RGV HOSPITAL) pondering the idea of a revision and decided about 6 months ago that I wanted to do it... so I am past all of the red tape, dietician visits and have full approval (by the grace of God) to have the BPS/DS revision performed... surgery date is 12/9. I am SUPER excited but also a little nervous, so I wanted to chat here with those who have had the same/similar procedure or in the process etc.
Help keep me honest here, I cant remember for certain but I am almost 100% sure that my doctor told me he wont be modifying my pouch.. he said during my scope that the pouch size was still nice and small (even though I can eat much more than when I 1st had my RNY) and that I would "technically be able although absolutely not recommended" to still eat whatever I wanted because this procedure is malabsorptive in nature and not changing anything with the stomach. He did state the 1st 4-8 weeks its still recommended to follow the clear liquids and then soft foods/puree portions of the diet... Does this sound right?
Question about common channel... should I be asking how much or how little of this he is bypassing? I am not certain that I fully understand that it even truly matters with an experiences surgeon but would like to hear from you all as well.
Vitamins, Vitamins, Vitamins... I am currently taking a daily multivitamin, Iron, Vitamin C (Gummy) and B12 (Gummy) every day, I never miss a vitamin... my understanding is that I will need to add Vit A and Vit K... is this accurate? How much of those vitamins? What other vitamins?
Weight loss expectations? My surgeon said he believes that with the revision, he believes I can lose anywhere between 85-90% of my excess body weight and keep that off... what are your experiences or thoughts? He stated my age is still on the younger end of things and with proper diet and exercise, he feels I can be a true success story. Does this operation generally promote fast weight loss?
And LASTLY... What advice or recommendations do you have? Doing it laparoscopic, any idea about how much time I may need to take off? I feel like a week is ample, what are your experiences?
I would be very careful here....The surgeon you picked does not do the DS, he does SIPS. You will not be getting a DS, you will be getting a distalized RNY (depending on your common channel) so you will have one anastomosis ......
CAUTION here. Your surgeon is telling you he wont touch your pouch since there are only a handful of surgeons in the world that can revise a RNY pouch to a VSG. YES you need to ask questions about what he intends on doing to you.....in other words common channel...is the place where the 2 DS limbs meet and where absorption is. the shorter the common channel the greater the weight loss and PAY ATTENTION the greater the malabsorption. It has been agreed on that a 50 cc is too short, but I know one surgeon that is still performing them. Years later, yes you will lose the weight, but the # and severity of deficiencies could be overwhelming.....you are not at all ready for the # of vitamins/supplements you could be taking if you are distalized.....ask a lot of questions! best to you

I hope you are revcovering well! I understand your concern, but resleeving can have a boatload of complications with leaks etc., so just consider yourself fortunate an angel was watching above....keep healing, move a bit and keep going

I think you are doing amazingly well. You are only 4 weeks out, give your body some time to heal from the actual surgery.
