Is it better to burn 150 calories every day or 300 calories every other day?  (You can plug in any numbers you wish, but you get the point)

Neither is better. They are exactly the same.

Plus, you do need planned rest days so you shouldn't work out *every* day in the week.

Calorie wise the same, but if you are working on stamina, the longer workout probably helps that. Personally, if I'm working out hard, I can't workout two days in a row, I just don't perform well.
