Good Evening Ya'll!! I just had a quick question and needed some insight. I was reading a post last night and someone mentioned that Crystal Light prohibits weight loss in some ppl and may cause others to gain weight.  Has anyone else heard of this?? Crystal Light has helped me a great deal with my water consumption, but I don't want to sacrifice any weight loss because of it...Let me know your thoughts!

I've NEVER heard this!  I would love to see if there is any scientific proof to back this up.  I drink it all the time!  I'll be watching this post to see if anyone else has heard of this.  Cindy

Years ago when I did the Atkins diet, I remember reading something about how Dr. Atkins wanted people to avoid drinks with Nutrasweet as it sometimes can inhibit weight loss.  I'm not sure if that is the sweetner in Crystal Light or not.  I have never had a problem losing weight while drinking Crystal Light...

Oh gosh!  I GAINED 17 pounds (and sticking to a tee) on good ole Dr. Atkins' diet so I don't hold much in his saying that.

All I can tell you is I drink crystal light EVERY day for at least 1/2 of my water.  and I've lost 74 pounds in 5 months.  I would say that is a false statement

Crystal Lite has next-to-NO calories -so can neither help nor prohibit band loss!! It is not like protein drinks, that are the liquid calories that can stall weight loss - it is basically "NEUTRAL" !  But it is a great flavoring for those who don't like plain water. Lots of flavors (especially if you get it in MX, where they have mango, jicama, pina colada, and a bunch of kinds not sold in the US.  I suppose then, if it helps people get in the no-cal fluid they need every day, it is a very POSITIVE thing!   Enjoy! I love it! SAndy R at goal x 3.5 yrs

I thought I read something over the weekend that said crystal light was not recommended in high doses for those w/ diabetes.    I've discussed Crystal light, Tea2Go and all the other brand 'sugar free' flavors with my Dr. because i really do drink a lot of him.    He's in favor of anything that helps get in your required water as long as it's sugar free! Crystal light has been a huge help to me.    I love it! - Ann

Like everything else, you can google it and find articles to back it up. Any artificial sweeteners CAN cause you to want to eat more. I've never found that personally but maybe I'm a lucky one :) Same with coffee -- some say that is an appetite accelerant but coffee is nothing but heaven to me. You gotta see what works for you personally -- alot of people *****plied have indicated that they have no problem with it and I'm another one on the "Yeah, Crystal Light" side of the house.

The artificial sweeteners and diet sodas have been all over the news this summer  .claiming that the diet sodas cause an increase in heart attacks (carbonatedwater ) and the sweetners raise the blood sugar flling our systems into thinkig it is sugar .. then it comes crashing down   but I  do not think there is real proof on the sweetneers After all isnot that what real sugar does anyway??? .. When my hubby had open heart surgery almost 10 years ago his heart dr told him  not to have more than one soda 2 or 3 times a week  because of the carbonation , so I think the soda  studies are valid .. I have not had a soda since before being banded but I  do drink alot of crystal light! ..plain water just does not do it! but when we go out to eat I always ask for water

For me, too much Crystal Light stalls my weight loss every time.  When I was doing Atkins I was very good about tracking both my food and water.  One week when I was away and hated the water I drank 2-4 quarts of crystal light a day instead and lost NO weight that week despite good food choices and regular exercise.  I do drink some crystal light and/or diet iced tea in my day but I try to make it no more than a couple of glasses out of the 8+ I try to get each day. I don't believe this holds for everyone but for me too much crystal light (or other artificially sweetened drinks) definitely causes weight-loss problems.
