Not keeping down solids

Okay so I have been gone from the site for a long time. I got my lapband removed and replaced with a relize one in January. I was doing better but for the last 2 months I have been unable to keep down solids. I have been doing 2 or 3 protein drinks a day, still not losing weight, but that is not the problem. I just feel awful. My appt is not until Dec. I am trying to help. Anyone else feel yucky on liquids.

Did you go from lapband to realize band? Do you mind if I ask why? If you can't keep solids down you need to see your doc right away. That isn't normal. I know it happens but it is a reason to be seen right away. If you wait til DEC you could have a lot of damage and your body will be missing many vitamins that it needs.  Good luck and keep us posted.

My lapband had a severe slip that was not fixable, and the port had turned around,so the Dr. had to remove the entire band. The Dr. said that The Realize band was a better fit for me than the Lapband and also he used a smaller port (which is nice because I can't feel it now). I made an appt for Oct 20th, but I might cancel, the Dr. is 4 hours away from where I live and that is like $100 in gas. The only time available is at 2:45 and then after the visit and the drive home I will not be home until 10 or 11 at night.

I know that is far to drive but you need to keep that appt. You can't wait til Dec if you can't eat solids. You need to be seen because you don't want to wait and make things worse.

This is why most docs won't replace a band after it goes bad, because the second one tends to have the same problems. You MUST get to your doc before Dec., obviously your band is too tight, the longer you leave it that way the more damage you are doing to your stomach. In fact it may have already slipped if you can't eat solids. You've already pushed your luck by waiting 2 mos., I urge you to immediately get ahold of your doc and get in as soon as possible. I would guess your band days are over.

Thanks, I am going to keep the appt. I guess I did not even think I had a slip until you guys mentioned it. Last time the first surgeon I had did not put the band on properly so I thought it was just a fluke. I do not think my days are over, because if they do not give me something else I will not let them remove it. I will not go back to the way I was before. I would rather starve to death then gain all my weight back. I can not control my eating on my own, I know that. I am weak, I know who I am and I know that no matter how badly I want to eat like a rational person I never will be able to. I tried my whole life but just could not do it on my own.

Take it from someone who also had a band that didn't allow her to eat solid foods EVER... it's better to have the band removed and feel better physically. To say you would rather starve to death than gain the weight back is scary to me. There are much worse things than being fat... being damaged by a lapband is one of them. Believe me, I was dragging my feet, too, about having the band removed, but in hindsight, I should have had the band removed long before I did. And I have regained every pound I lost, but I'm alive today.  And I have to be grateful for that, at the very least.

I wish you the best. I truly hope you can revise to another WLS, but don't let your health suffer, OK? You're worth more than that.

I do believe that there are much worse things than being fat but, my highest weight was 360lbs, I could not tie my shoes or bend over or even wipe my butt well. As of right now my current weight is 235lbs and that is fine. If I stayed at this weight for the rest of my life I would be okay but to go back to 360lbs I could never do that again. If they unfill my band it may repair itself. Last time even with the unfill I could not eat solids because my slip was so bad. I was sick for over a year with the last slip, I have had problems that the Dr. had never even seen it was so bad, but even with that I would not change my decision to have WLS. I just pray that I do not have to make the decision to remove this band and not replace it with another WLS. My Dr. said that I can not have the Gastrict By-Pass because I have too much scar tissue and the ins will not cover the Sleeve. I will wait and see hopefully it will all work out.

I really do wish the best for you. I hope things work out. I just don't want you to be hurt.

Take care.
