4 year Vet Having Difficulty with food

Hi, I'm Marti from San Jose.  I had a Realize Lap Band installed 8/4/08.  Recently I have been having difficulty keeping food down (spinach, broccoli, pasta, turkey, chicken, mostly luncheon and dinner items) due to stress.  I have lost 10 lbs. from 144 to 134.  I immediately switched to liquids for 3 days.  Thought things had settled down, added foods back in and darned if the whole cycle didn't repeat itself.

Was in Urgent Care last Thursday where I was looked at from stem to stern and a bunch of blood work was done.  Other than my blood pressure was higher than a kite 174/92, everything was normal.  I'm 68, I walk on the treadmill 3X a week and lift weights 2X a week.

Can anyone make any suggestion as to how I can put an end to this?  Have I forgotten something?

Marti

I am not sure about what kind of care a Urgent Care place can give you regarding your band. Have you called your surgeon to ask about a small unfill, since you have been having stress?  Thats the first thing I would do.

Good luck finding relief soon...in the meantime, papaya tablets may help a little.

.5 fill  March 2012. unfill of .25cc May 2012.  Unfill of .5cc June 2014.

Still with my lapband with no plans for revision. Band working well since

last small unfill.

Urgent Care is connected to Palo Alto Medical Foundation where I get my medical care.  My doctor's schedule was full for the day, so I was sent down there.  [It's not a "doc in the box."]

Please don't take offense. I am just worried that the longer you wait to talk to your surgeon (the one who should be contacted first IMHO), your problems could increase, including dehydration.
Ok..hes a pain to schedule but a bigger pain awaits if it goes on too long.

Just trying to help you know.

Thank you for your concern.  I did ask for input and I am getting it.

I would call you doc. Maybe you need an slight unfill or maybe you have a slip.

Jonathan,
Thank you for your thoughtful reply.  I had an exam at the end of January, everything was just fine.  I'm due for another one in May.  The Urgent Care doc wanted me to schedule a couple of tests in the next week or so after Easter, so I may contact the Band doc after that. (he's a  pain to schedule).

Please help me understand this.  You are having difficulty eating since last week but the Urgent Care doc wants to wait a "week or so"?    Do you know that the longer you are too tight, the more you risk permanent damage to yourself?      Does your Urgent Care Doc have bariatric experience?

Please seek an unfill at the very least before you become another statistic here.  I am really concerned for you.

I have to agree with Jo on this one.  The longer you wait the more risk you have to:

1)  Risk organ damage  (BTDT)

2)  Lose your band  (BTDT)

I mean, it's your choice.  But I wouldn't care what kind of a pain it was to schedule with my doc.  I'd have my butt in that office standing there waiting for orders for a barium swallow.

If your band doc is a pain to schedule with call and be specific in telling them that you are having new onset of problems, and also ask about seeing you if someone else cancels an appointment, if you're able to go on short notice.
