Do You Hate the Sweet Protein Shakes? I Found a Solution

The worst part of the pre-diet was/is the protein shakes. Yuck!!! No matter what flavor I tried, they were sicky sweet. I began to dread them. Not good. I am not a sweets person. I am far more partial to savory. So the sweet thick shake thing was a bummer. But I found a solution. Unflavored (specifically Isopure unflavored) Protein Isolate! Add to chicken broth, tomato soup or even better, those no/low calorie single drink mixes (and the liquid ones are not as good as the little powder packets). Strawberry/watermelon or Tangerine/grapefruit. Tastes more like fruit juice. And you can control how sweet and strong the flavor is. Not that sicky sweet, thick, blech taste. Yay! I will make it through this!

My new discovery is making a "slurry" with the plain protein powder and a little warmed milk (real or almond etc) then mixing this into a hot beverage. I've been using a packet of Truvia, two scoops (one serving) of the Isopure, and 3 TBSP low fat milk, then adding it to a mug of Green Chai Tea (Stash brand tea bags). It's to DIE for!!!

Also did this adding 2 TBSP unsweetened cocoa powder, adding it to coffee - OMG so good!

I will try that with unsweetened cocoa powder and almond milk in coffee... I had some dutch chocolate Isopure left over, so this weekend, I added it to coffee... Yuck. I LOVE mocha coffee and was hoping that it would be good. Are you using caf or de-caf coffee? I'm have a hard time giving up my one cup of caf coffee in the morning.

I'm using half and half (half caf half de-caf) in the morning, then decaf after that.

I am in the exact same boat! Just had my gastric sleeve surgery so, needless to say, it's all about the protein now! I have tried multiple brands of shakes and powders and find them all gross and nausea-inducing, and can't understand why your only options are these sickly sweet flavors, with such a thick texture. I did find protein water, that comes in various fruity flavors, that are much more bearable, but the one I am drinking now tastes like robitussen and I am already getting sick of it...would you say the isopure unflavored is the best brand to get? Inspire has an unflavored option that seems to have decent reviews...https://shop.bariatriceating.com/Inspire-Protein-Pure.html

Thanks!
