Tea... how do I know if its decaf?

Even regular green tea has caffeine. I really like Typhoo decaf tea but my Superstore stopped carrying it. Red Rose decaf is too weak for me. I am going to try the PC one next.

I drank Tetley for years, but I actually prefer Typhoo now.

all tea - black, white, green, yellow and oolong contain natural caffiene (they all come the same plant, Camellia Sinensis -  just processed at different times/ways).

The way to decaffienate it.. is to steep for one minute and dump it.. then use the same bag and steep till you get desired strength.  If you buy "decaf" this has already been done for you.

Herbal Tea, never has caffiene... because it not a real tea.. it is herbs, fruits etc.

Rooibos Tea, never has caffiene either.. because it comes from a different plant (Aspalathus linearis).  It is classified as a herbal.

I know alot about tea.. I drink only loose quality tea now.. it replaced my 2 litre a day diet coke habit over a year ago :)

when you are drinking the loose leaf tea how do you NOT get all the lil bits at the bottom of the cup?

My kids bought me the Davids Tea sampler pack for christmas with the lil tea ball and everything... (shhhh I HATE IT) there is so much tea escaping the ball and I feel like I need to chew my tea...

That is great info, thanks! I love Tetley green teas, especially blueberry flavoured. I worried that it was not caffiene free. Now I can decaffinate it myself!!

Black tea = contains caffeine
Chai Tea: I'm pretty sure it contains black tea in the blend; therefore some caffeine
Green Tea: I 'think' there is a certain level of caffeine - would need further googling

Red Rose has a decaf orange pekoe
Tetly has a decaf: Earl Grey

You're heading in the right direction and you're researching: those are good steps :)

Edited to add: Thanks for posting; good info posted by others!

Chai is actually a flavor and not a type of tea.  so watch carefully when you purchase.. unless you find a Chai Rooibos, that would be caffiene free.

Just being pedantic I know, but it's a personal pet peeve...

"Chai" actually just means tea.

Chai is used incorrectly on labeling in the western world as if it is synonymous with masala chai - spiced tea.

Now that I've got that out of my system, you are right, masala chai is usually made with caffeinated black tea (usually assam) and unless it specifies caffeine free it probably isn't, even in powdered instant drink mix form.
