Surragacy

Hi all,

I just had surgery in Feb 2011 and am down 91lbs so far, woo hoo!! I have always been interested in surragacy, but of course was always too big to do it. Now that I am on my way to a healthy weight, I am starting to think about fulfilling one of my dreams. Does anyone know anything about surragacy and gastric bypass. I know I am not to get pregnant for at least one year, so we are waiting until next 2012. But wanted to start my research on the topic. Anyone out there gone through pregnancy just for themselves since GBS?

You should actually wait 18-24 months after weight loss surgery before you consider pregnancy. Quite often deficiencies do not show up until you are further out. There are lots of people who have successful pregnancies after WLS but you must be closely monitored.

There is a pregnancy board on OH where I'm sure they would have lots of information about surrogacy and pregnancy. It's under Forums, Weightloss Related, Pregnancy After Weight Loss Surgery. Good luck!

I have done two surrogacies myself before weight loss and now I am going to have my surgery hopefully within the next couple of years (just starting the process). I was big when I got pregnant (270-300) and I was able to do surrogacy. I myself would love to do another one but now is the time for me, to get healthy first. I am still deciding if I want to do another one. That being said, the woman who runs Canadian Surrogacy Options had gastric bypass (also did 3 or 4 surrogacies herself -- pregnancies pre-bypass surgery), she said that her physician said about 18 mths to wait until getting pregnant but each person is different. I guess it is between your fertility specialist and yourself to decide.

Best of luck and you are a special person!

Honestly curious....

Why is it a dream of yours to be a surrogate?

I always have wanted to since I was a little girl...I don't know why, it's just something I have always felt passionate about. Helping others acheive something they can't on there own. I guess some people are just meant to do certain things...I guess. I know it probably sounds strange but hey...so yeah that's why...

Wow... interesting!

As a woman who can't have kids, I find that both fascinating and admirable.

Good luck with it!
