Stomach issues before and after
1-Will you have the same issues after surgery as before? For example: I am lactose intolerant. I dont suppose this will change after surgery, huh??
2-Maybe this is more of a questions about the vitamins themselves rather than stomach issues, but my vitamins make me nauseous. I have to take them at night or else I feel like I have morning sickness until about 10am. Does anyone know which vitamin is doing that, and why? Is it the vitamin itself or just the brand? and will it still do that after surgery?
Thanks!!
As far as the vitamins go, it depends on what you are taking. B12 and iron both cause stomach upset for some people. You may want to try taking these with food, if possible. Some vitamins also contain milk products, so it would be worth checking your labels. Run it by your dietician; they should be able to help.
Good luck! I hope your tummy problems get sorted out soon.

As for the vitamins, I have always had problems as well - upset tummy and bad after taste / regurgitation, and have therfore never been able to use vitamins for any length of time before. This time it wasn't a choice though, so I started with a liquid multivitamin with minerals (Genestra Brand - Liquid Multi Vite Min) and split it into 2 doses of 1 tbsp each, 2 hrs apart. Doesn't taste great, although it doesn't bother me now, but for the first time I had no problems. Interestingly enough, after finding the liquid inconvenient to carry around ,I went to Bariatric Advantage chewables for 6 weeks - and the the tummy problems started again. Have now switched back to the Genestra, and it's cleared up. Maybe I was just lucky, but trying a liquid might help you too. Doing the same with the calcium citrate (liquid), and taking B12 by monthly injections at my GP.

I suspect the nausea may be the iron as I take a multivitamin with iron as well as an iron supplement.
Thanks also for the info on whey protein. I have been trying protein powders here and there to try to find one I like and have not run into anything that has given my lactose issues yet.
Lactose pain is a very different feeling than the nausea from the vitamins so I dont think that's the case for me.
Thanks again :)
Check the ingredients of your vitamins are they Lactose Free. I do chewables and always take them with food.

1- I am less sensitive to lactose now... I use lactose free milk as much as possible but I'm ok with cheese. I'm ok with regular milk in my coffee at work as it's in small quantities.
2- I use to get very nauseous when I was taking a multi vitamin that contained Green Tea ( I forget the brand). Also when I was taking more zinc as immune boosting. Bariatric Advantage might be the best route for you. My roomie in the hospital can only tolerate those and is quite satisfied (well at least at the last time I chatted with her).
