Question about sugar and dumping
Hey folks
I have been doing a lot of baking this summer with all the fresh ingredients available at this time of year. I have tried to make a few things as sugar-free as possible, experimenting with artifical sweeteners etc.
Question for those who dump on sugar: how do you tolerate natural sweeteners like honey and maple syrup? is it the same or is it only refined sugars? I know there was some discussions on sugar alcohols and how they can cause dumping as well.
Thanks!

I've only accidentally tested the waters with white/brown sugar, and it's not good! I can eat unsweetened applesauce, fresh fruits like plums, cherries, bananas with no problem, so I guess their natural sugars don't bother me.
Had RNY surgery July 22/11, St. Joe's Hamilton, with the awesome Dr. Scott Gmora. Had abdominoplasty August 2/13, Scarborough, with equally awesome Dr. Michael Kreidstein.

I haven't dumped on anything, i try to be very careful about my sugar intake. I've had bites of things made with sugar tho, and never dumped.
My daughter made me these awesome brownies made with a mix of splenda and agave syrup.
haven't tried natural sugars like honey and maple syrup. Maybe i'm no help to you at all. lol

I don't bake much with sugar substitutes...but then again I don't eat much of my baking either, I bake primarily for the rest of the family...so where in the past I may have eaten 5 cookies I eat
(1-2) at most and that amount dumping doesn't effect me..
for maple syrup, I use such a small amount..maybe a tsp..I am not one of thsoe poeple that like my waffles or pancakes saturated (never have)...so that again doesn't effect me..and I may eat pancakes once a month or less
honey...wow can't recall the last time I put honey in my tea I strictly use Splenda now.
as far as sugars that are in items purchased..that I have to be VERY careful of...a scoop of hard ice cream is fine..a small soft cone from McDonalds is not okay
and anything like a McFlurry or Blizzard (forget it)...for me anyway~!
