Angel?

What exactly does an "Angel" do other than let people know you made it through surgery ok ??

I have probably been here long enough that I should know but I never really paid attention til now! My surgery was always so far away before but now........*gulp*!!!!

As I understand it, an angel not only gives the update to others on your surgical progress, but also acts as someone you can talk to when and if needed. Karen posts lists of persons willing to be angels, as well as upcoming surgical dates.

My understanding is its diffent for diffent people. 
Sam1am (Sandy) acted as my angel, I don't think she was on a list however I always liked the way she was with new people on the forum and she had been nice to me at one time when I needed it.  I asked her and she said yes. 
She kept people up-dated on my surgery and was a support and sounding board for me after surgery if I wanted to ask something. 
Sandy didn't have RNY or go through Guelph so if I had specific questions about those things Laura S was only a few weeks further then me and could usually answer those questions.
These two were a tremendous help for me when I needed it.

I understand it as a support/buddy system.  A bit like a sponsor.
