Disappointed with surgeon's appt
I thank the Gods for this website because going in without knowing what I know or having done as much research as I have done, I don't know how anyone can be successful with the miniscule amount of knowledge I have received to date from the clinic itself.
He said...this is what the surgery basically is: bla hblah blah...but I am sure you have watched the videos on youtube. Sign here. Any questions?
Seriously???? I waited over an HOUR in the freezing waiting room for 3 minutes???
I *did* have questions though, and he was very good to answer everything in great detail....he even showed me what the staple gun looks like....and it looks like a real gun! Very cool.
Anyways.....ya, he didnt ask me if I quit smoking or if I stopped caffeine, if I understood about malabsorption or anything. He was very nice but as I said, I am glad I came here to OH to research what I know because I dont think I would have felt comfortable signing that paper otherwise!!
Just be glad its done and your now another step closer!
Yeah, for me it was equally as anti-climactic. Shortest meeting of all of them so far. But.. you know what? Another step down.. :)

Its up to the person who wants this done to do all the research and get the information before getting to see the surgeon, the net is the best way maybe ur GP and the rest of the gastric by pass team, as well as these forums along the way, Its never to late to back out if you don't feel you learned enough but in my opinion after the surgery you will learn what ur body wants and needs as every one experiences are very different, some easy some with complications, its a daily chore and remember this is just a " TOOL " its up to you how you want to help yourself get to where you want to be some will fail some will be a success This is a LIFE CHANGE and you have to accept and be committed to these changes.
All the best in ur journey as you are now at the last stage for ur surgery date.

Jennifer,
Sorry about the disappointment, I was hoping to get to meet you but mine was one of the appointments cancelled and not rescheduled until the 11th of October. I for one will be happy to drive 2 hours just to sign after being in this process for over two years. They can talk about jelly beans for all I care I am so ready to sign! lol
Did they happen to say why the other appointements were cancelled? Which surgeon did you meet? Did they give you any estimate of time till surgery? Did you pick up optifast while there?
Thanks,
Tracey
They didnt say why the other appointments were cancelled and I only got to meet with the assistant surgeon actually, Dr Smith. Cute as button, btw!
He gave me an estimate of about a month for surgery and yes I also picked up my Optifast while I was there. It was $293 and change.
Tip: Wear loose pants because he wanted to look at my stomach!! Oh yes, after sitting for an hour in jeans that are WAY too tight for me (I refuse to buy any clothes right now) ..... that was attractive!!
