I did a face plant on the street today!

I've been walking to and from work the last few weeks and have been very dedicated to it.  I find I can motor along quite nicely, and it feels great.  This morning I left earlier than usual, and was clipping along, when all of a sudden I became a cartoon.  Thank goodness it was dark out and the neighbourhood was asleep.  My feet got tangled up in a small tree branch on the sidewalk, and I did a few twinkletoes moves trying to stay upright, before I landed on my knees, followed by nearly grinding my chin into the sidewalk.  Thank god for cell phones b/c I had to phone my husband to pick me up off the sidewalk (I was only a few minutes from home) and drive me to work.

The worse part of it is that my left butt cheek deep inside, and my entire inner and outer thigh area has been wrenched badly, having trouble walking, climbing stairs, etc.  I first landed on my right knee, and that's sore now (but I think that'll be better by tomorrow), and my right upper arm is aching from the strain of trying to break my fall.  The butt thing is going to take months to heal up (something similar happened to me a few years ago, and it was fully a year before I didn't have any issues from it.)

But worst of all, what about my walks?  Sheesh, just when I was becoming more active . . .

Had RNY surgery July 22/11, St. Joe's Hamilton, with the awesome Dr. Scott Gmora.  Had abdominoplasty August 2/13, Scarborough, with equally awesome Dr. Michael Kreidstein.

oh Megan I am sorry to hear that.  I hate to say it but it's only going to feel worse tomorrow. I did the same thing last year and OMG did it ever hurt the next day. I could barely get out of bed.

The only thing I can suggest is taken a nice warm/hot bath. Just soak the crap out of your body.  Hopefully you feel better soon so you can get moving again.

Megan,
Sorry to hear about your fall, that sucks. Hopefully you will heal quickly. Maybe you can substuite walking for swimming if you are near a pool, that way you can stay active until you feel better. I did the butt thing before too falling down stairs and bot does it hurt (what a pain in tha butt) (HAHA, bad joke). Also awhile ago  I bought a little exercise bike that sits on the ground and you can use it from sitting on your couch or anywhere and petal. I used to use that before my knees got really bad from my weight.  You can but it online or a shoppers home health store.   By the way you look great. Keep up the hard work. Take care

Thanks for the info, and I appreciate the joke.  I've been thinking of a few butt jokes myself, and poor hubby has butt massage duty (and he'd better like it b/c my butt is all soft and squishy and saggy now!  What more could a guy want, right!?!)

Sorry to hear that you got hurt. I would be taking some tylenol regularly for the next couple of days and ice the sore areas. Hopefully you'll bounce back quicker than last time!

Megan I'm so sorry that you've hurt yourself!!  I might have a possible solution for you, Nordic walking sticks!  They give you so much control and confidance when walking, you'll be amazed.
My hubby is around 337 right now and started walking a few weeks ago and found that he was wobbly at times.  A VERY nice lady who also walks in our area was talking to him and she uses the walking sticks.  She explained to him how they work out your upper body at the same time as you're walking, and they increase your calories burned by about 30%!!  Normally the sticks cost around 100 but this woman has seen how hard my hubby is working and she ended up giving him a pair!!  Now he says he feels like a choo choo train in motion and feels much safer walking.  He gets a pattern going in his head and there's no stopping him!  He's up to over a mile at a time now.  I'm so freaking proud of him!!
I hope you're sitting reading this with your leg up and ice on your knee!!!!  I'm sending you a hug and hope you're not in too much pain!!!
Choooo chooooo!!!

I never would have thought of that.  My brother uses walking sticks all the time - even took them on a cruise - I think I'll be talking to him.  Thanks for the great idea.
