OT 16:9 The Bigger Picture
Hi LuAnne,
thanks for the reminder,
I thought they did a pretty good job on the show. I like how they said that they treat a smoker when they get emphazema or lung cancer, so health care is not a blame thing.i. There are still too many predjuces against obese people. I am sure if the governments weigh the cost of treating all the co morbidities (diabetes, hypertension, high colesterol, heart attacks, etc) to the cost of WLS then they will see it is much cheaper in the long run to fund WLS.
I was once passed over for a promotion at work (major telco) as the senior manager questioned "how I could manage a team of reps when I couldn't control myself". I had to wait an extra 4 years to finally get the promotion. But I know we have all suffered from this predjudicial treatment. If you have not walked in our shoes, you just don't understand.
I am glad she got her surgery. I looked at the nova scotia forum and there are hardly any postings there. We are so lucky we have this large supportive group. I pm'd her and invited her to feel free to come chat with us. She was very brave to have gone out and done this so publicly. I have doubts about telling co workers...
Is the guy (forgot his name) who had to move to ontario on the forum? If so, I want to wish him the best too and tell him thanks.
Next is trying to get more funding for more than the panni removal. But seeing as OHIP is looking to cut back I guess I won't hold my breath. But the more visability we have the better for everyone.

I am so glad that it was positive exposure, for once, on wls. We all know the prejudices out there about obesity and felt the brunt of the snickers and jokes. I noticed that the Nova Scotia boards are slow, maybe it reflects the pace of the surgeries! I actually watched the show twice, the second time I had my mom watch and she called immediately afterwards and commented on how brave Lillian was to expose herself like that and she liked positive way it was presented.. All in all, very informative and educational.
