The time has come...

I leave this morning to hop a plane to Hamilton for my Thursday morning surgery. I think I'm still in denial. I have no butterflies at all. I've waited so long for this to finally happen that I think I'm still in denial. Perhaps the nerves will start only when they're wheeling me into the OR.

Going for surgery is a little different for those of us who live in the north. I have to drive nearly 4 hours today to get to the airport in Thunder Bay then hop a plan to Toronto. Once there, I need to drive to Hamilton. (Driving in Toronto has me more stressed than the surgery at this point.) I still don't have a room confirmed as the place I expected to stay told me they were still full as of yesterday. They told me to call today and they'd see if anything opens up. If not, they'll help me find another place.

I have PATTS tomorrow at nine. I drive back to Toronto in the afternoon to meet my fiance at the airport then drive back to Hamilton. Surgery is booked for 8:00 on Thursday so I have to be there at 6:00. Who has time to get nervous??? I'm going to be crazy busy for the next 48 hours.

I drank my last OPTI last night. I have to say that I really liked them and I had no ill effects. Let's hope my plumbing works just as well post-op. I expect the next couple of days to be much more difficult: only clear fluids until the midnight before surgery. I've lost 14 lbs after 12 days on Opti. That makes me happy as I'm under 300 lbs going into surgery.

I want to thank everyone on the boards for their expertise and support. It's been indespensible. I'd like to especially thank my Angel, Sher1ock. Not only is her success inspiring, but she's super wise AND funny. I may not have access to the boards for the next little bit but she'll keep you apprised of how things go.

I'm sticking around Hamilton for a week. I'm being a bit conservative but as I live so far away from even Thunder Bay, I thought it was wise.

Wish me luck, everyone, and don't forget to scooch over just a little to make room for me on the bench!

Don't worry about a thing, Thea, you'll be in good hands.  It's good that you're staying down there for a couple of days after you're released - just in case.  And who doesn't like to hang around Toronto area - you need to walk, so you might as well do it in one of their luscious malls!  While you're in Hamilton, if you get a chance to go to the Farmer's Market, it's worth seeing - it' s an indoor facility and makes ours look like a lemonade stand.  Try to keep busy, make sure you take your finger and toenail polishes completely off as well.   Can't wait to hear from you post-op!

Had RNY surgery July 22/11, St. Joe's Hamilton, with the awesome Dr. Scott Gmora.  Had abdominoplasty August 2/13, Scarborough, with equally awesome Dr. Michael Kreidstein.
