Well I was quite suprised ...I saw a plastic surgeon on Spet 28 and today I got a call from their office that my panni remval had been denies with comments (borderline).

My PS told me that I fit the criteria of 7 inches overhand over the public area..but I am not sure what other guidelines have to be factured in.

I will appeal OHIPS decision and wonder if anyone else on this board has appealed the OHIP decision and if they have any WORDS of WISDOM...(please contact me privately if you wish)

After the appeal....I will still have this done, it may take a year or two to save for it..but I deserve it and well....although it makes me a bit angry....I won't give up.

Thanks in advance for any words of wisdom.

(p.s. what I would recommend to anyone who HOPES to have this covered...if you have any rashes because of your overhand after weightloss....make sur eyou go to the doctor and have it documented.)

Mary, the Thunder Bay Clinic is not sending any refferals locally and instead is using 2 plastic surgeons in sothern ontario to do refferals, I also know someone who was denied locally and then approved there.  They recieved thier refferal from Dr Wyantt to see a surgeon in Toronto and also have a refferal to the Thunder Bay centre for follow up with nutitionist etc , they are 2 years out.

Dr. Wyant sent me to a plastic surgeon in Scarborough...and that us where I was denied from.  I will be 3 years post-op next week..but as stated I am borderline to their requirements.

I chose to see a surgeon in Southern Ontario as opposed to the PS here as that was my preference.  I don't think that "trying" another surgeon anywhere would make any difference..because I believe all of your history is by health card number (not sure).

and I would "assume" if I was denied from a well know plastic surgeon in SOuthern Ontario..I doubt going to anyone else would make a difference.

please keep your fingers crossed for me as I TRY the appeal process

That is soooo frustrating!  It is so hard to believe that they won't cover it, what about a patients mental health?  It is discouraging and sometimes depressing to look in the mirror and see all of that skin.  I too will be saving up for it.  Best of luck on your appeal.

thanks very much...yes mental anguish....but seriously as peeved as I may be at the moment

...I won't let that rain on "my parade" next week will be 3 years since I had my surgery and it has been the BEST 3 years I have had in the last 25!!!!

It will just take me a bit longer to get some of the residual after effects taken care of.

Positive thinking~!!

Thanks very much...I could spend my time stewing about the decision or try to change their minds...either way...I want my time spent to be doing something positive and not complaining.

Keep moving forward that is what this surgery/journey has taught me~!!

Mary what is your surgeon's approval rate for panni coverage?  If you don't win the appeal, you may seriously want to consider seeing one that has had a good rate of approvals.  Hopefully you win your appeal as I know you like the PS that you met with.

I am from Thunder Bay and therefore opted to travel to Southern Ontario because I thought I would have an advantage going with someone who has done more of these e procedures...
thanks very much for your question...which off hand I don't know the response to however, I was told that they did have a couple of recent submissions for panni removal that were "borderline" that appealed and then won heir appeal.

I will ask that question, when I call back late this week to give her my decision on what I am proceeding forward with.

THANKS AGAIN!! yo raised an excellant quesiton that might aid in my future invetigation/proceedings.
