Whey protein typically comes in two main forms: concentrate ('regular') and isolate.
Concentrates have a low (but significant) levels of fat an cholesterol, and carbohydrates in the form of lactose. Plus they are sometimes not very good for protein. Some protein concentrates are only 29% protein by weight. If you're lacotose intolerant this type is definitely not advised.
Whey protein isolates are processed to remove the fat and lactose, and are 90%+ protein by weight (purer).
Isolates are more readibly absorbed than concentrates making them better for WLS patients as you can get more protein in less volume.
