1. I felt hunger for most of the time on optifast. The exception is the last few days. Even with the hunger however, it was doable for sure.
2. For the first few days I felt dizzy, starving, low energy, and generally out of sorts. That did slow down and stop however.
3. I did not cheat, not even the tiniest bite.
4. Sleeping was really tough for the first week; I wouldn't have been able to sleep without the painkillers for at least the first few days. I wanted off the pain meds asap and sleep was harder after that. The second week was much easier.
5. Opti was not that bad at all; I would say that eating post surgery is actually harder.
1. at what point after surgery did you have a drink ie. month 4 months...etc?
I don't drink much at all and I don't plan to start. I just don't like the taste.
2. did anyone used to smoke heavy or casual and start back up again?
I've never smoked. Coming from a family of smokers was enough to make me vomit at the thought.
3. how much weight did you lose your first month???/
28 lbs in the first month, 52 overall since my referral!

1. on optifast did you stop feeling hungry? - yep..... i drank all four each day with no problems and mainly had water and either chicken or beef broth
2. did you feel weak on the opti diet? not at all
3. did you ever cheat? nope and i was on opti for xmas day and new year's.. so was tempting but never did - even sat at the xmas table drinking my shake and cleaning the meat off the bird... and no problems! if i was going to cheat on opti i figured how would i succeed with the liquid, puree and minced food stages??? no sense cheating...i probly cheated on all of my previous "diets" hence part of the reason for the surgery!
4. were you able to sleep when you got back well? yeppers!! in the lazy boy chair mind you .. for a while!
5. was opti the worst part as some have mentioned? i rather enjoyed the optifast - blended with lots of ice!!
and then again.. we are ALL different and handle things ALL differently!
good luck to you!

I'm only a week post-op but here's my 2 cents for what they're worth...
1. on optifast did you stop feeling hungry? Not really, but the starving got markedly better after the 4th day.
2. did you feel weak on the opti diet? I definitely did not have the energy I had before, nor the stamina. I guess I would have to say yes I felt a little weak. Not so that I had to lie around all the time but definitely didn't feel right with any large amount of exertion.
3. did you ever cheat? Not once, ever. And I am so glad I didn't. It was a HARD struggle every day but in the long term it taught me a lot about how to deal with things after surgery.
4. were you able to sleep when you got back well? I don't think I'm far enough out to answer this question but, so far, for the most part I am sleeping well.
5. was opti the worst part as some have mentioned? Mentally, the opti was definitely the worst and most difficult part. The first 2 days or so I could barely tolerate the opti but once I resigned myself to the fact that it was a necessary evil, I actually found myself not minding the taste and looking forward to my next shake. The cravings and yearnings for all the things I couldn't have were the WORST part of opti.
1. at what point after surgery did you have a drink ie. month 4 months...etc?
No where near ready for a drink yet but then I also was not a drinker before surgery, maybe 2 per year.
2. did anyone used to smoke heavy or casual and start back up again?
never smoked, never will
3. how much weight did you lose your first month???
On 3wks of opti, I lost 21 pounds. Since surgery (one week today) I have lost 8lbs. Total = 29 lbs

2. did you feel weak on the opti diet? Tired, yes, low energy.

4. were you able to sleep when you got back well? After i got home from surgery, yes, i slept well.
5. was opti the worst part as some have mentioned? No. there has been no "worst part" for me. I looked at optifast as the beginning of my new life, as the dues i'd have to pay, and i was excited to be starting this journey. Now, actually, more than a year out, its more challenging, but still not "worst". The worst part was the 20 years of obesity that preceded my journey toward health.
You're welcome.
