I never felt hungry on optifast.
at first i never felt weak but in my third weak I was in the pool and I had to leave because I just did not feel strong enough to do the pool exercise. Up to the point I was great i swam 1/2 mile and did the water work out and worked. one day after 1/2 mile swim and feeling weak is not bad i say.
I will be honest I cheated one day but let me tell you what I cheated with was a half of a celery stick and that was it. some clinics allow you celery mine did not.
I was never a great sleeper so hard to answer.
I did not find opti that bad. I did a thanksgiving dinner for the family and it did not bother me at all not to be able to have any. i knew it was a start to my new life

  1. on optifast did you stop feeling hungry? Yes. Some days I had to work at getting the third shake in.

2. did you feel weak on the opti diet? No. I had lots of energy.

3. did you ever cheat? Nope - I was determined to follow the rules and make this work for me.

4. were you able to sleep when you got back well? Right out of the hospital I struggled with sleeping on my side. I used a body pillow to support my belly in order to sleep. I too struggled with rolling over in bed. My muscle pain was on the lower left side. I got a little better everyday. I still struggle with waking up more at night then I did pre-op.

5. was opti the worst part as some have mentioned? I didn't mind the Optifast phase. I have been very fortunate and haven't had any struggles throughout the process to date.

The Ottawa clinic said to wait 6 months and I waited exactly 6 months. I currently drink a couple of Canadian 67's a week and the odd white wine spritzer.

I wish you every success on your journey. In my opinion it was the best decision I ever made and I just wish I had done it years ago.

 1. No never hungry on opti and no nasty side effects....was taking it January  and wished for hot savoury instead of cold sweet.
2. Tons of energy
3. Yes, had an evening reception at a conf I was attending, about 5 days into opti, so had my 4 shakes, but also 3 glasses white vino, and several samosas and Chinese finger food thingies , was a finger foods dinner reception.....loved it, hated my weakness, did it only once, still  lost 10 lbs over 2 weeks and was ok for surgery.
 4. Slept like a log for 2 weeks or more after surgery including day naps as felt tired after surgery
5. Opti was not a problem at all except too sweet and too cold

Have always been a non smoker myself, and wacky tabacky has always caused asthmatic reactions (can't breathe and wheeze) so have no advice to give you other than smokers are told to stop about 3-4 weeks before surgery for healing problems associated with nicotine ....
